We are looking for a friendly, motivated individual and forward thinking to join our dedicated team in providing high quality care to our Endoscopy Unit at Ealing Hospital .
This is a full time - permanent vacancy.
Main duties of the job
- To assist qualified nursing staff in the delivery of care to patients
- To seek clarification from trained staff wherever the post holder is uncertain about their responsibilities or duties at any time.
- Liaising with other multidisciplinary teams for patient information
- To ensure that all patient and discharge areas are equipped, tidy and ready for use.
- To assist in the first line maintenance of medical devices, maintain clinical stock levels in each area.
- Assist trained nurse in the timely discharge of patients
- Computer skills - CERNER
- Taking and recording accurately vital signs and highlighting concerns to trained nurse
Staff may be required from time to time to work in a different site within the Trust.

Communication
- Able to provide and receive information on the daily running of the Unit
- The role will involve communicating with patients who may have difficulty or not be able to communicate back. This will require the use of tact, persuasion and reassurance in many situations.
- This role will also include the receiving and general care of visitors to the Unit.
- Able to receive telephone calls from relatives and members of the multi-disciplinary team and able to refer them to the relevant person as appropriate.
- Report any concerns regarding patient care to the qualified nurse in charge.
- Involved in accessing the CERNER to locate patients and to print labels for medical staff
- The post holder must maintain the confidentiality of information about patients, staff, and health service businesses in accordance with Trust Confidentiality Policy and the Data Protection Act.
- Communicate effectively to new members of staff, identify and prioritise needs for endoscopy
Clinical
- Be able to locate all policies relating to good working practice within the clinical areas and adhere to them.
- You will assist the nursing staff in the delivery of care to patients whilst under (close) supervision. This will involve the delivery of basic nursing care and the safe handling of patients.
- Prepare bed areas for reception of patients and clean and restock upon discharge.
- Ensure adequate supplies of items at the bedside for patient care.
- Assist in physiological measurements within agreed competency.
- Preparation of equipment for use and run calibration checks.
- Ensure safekeeping of patients property and valuables within Trust guidelines.
- Be aware of your competence and acknowledge your own boundaries asking for assistance as required.
- Recognise and respond appropriately to urgent and emergency situations.
- Liaise with the Facilities Department when shortages occur with supplies and linen.
Reporting stock shortages and problems to shift manager.
- Ensure equipment is maintained to a high standard by reporting outstanding PPMs and damaged malfunctioning equipment to the relevant department.
- Report maintenance problems to the relevant department.
- Maintain the general tidiness and safety of the areas with particular responsibility for storage areas including the storage of non-stock deliveries.
- Understands and undertakes own responsibility for infection control in daily work.
- Utilise tact and professionalism when dealing with face to face or distressing calls from patients and relatives and pass on information to the relevant member of the multi-disciplinary team.
Service Development
- Assist in the implementation of new ways of working.
- Assist in evaluating working practices
- Assist in the orientation of new and temporary staff members to the Unit and their ongoing development of their practice.
- Report untoward incidents such as complaints, clinical emergencies and injury as per trust policies/procedures.
