Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and dynamic pharmacist to join the NHS Specialist Pharmacy Service (SPS) Medicines Advice leadership team. This post is based at London North West Healthcare NHS Trust (LNWH) on an interim basis (until March 2024).

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will be responsible for managing a team of individuals engaged in the core duties of SPS Medicines Advice described above. You will be responsible for supporting the SPS Medicines Advice Hub Leads to ensure operational delivery of our service against KPIs agreed with NHS England, and then identifying ways in which to achieve the strategy through staff at the two London sites. You will also be expected to work collaboratively with colleagues across the other functions within SPS. You will focus on support the Information & Resource and the RMOC Hubs within Medicines Advice.

NHS Specialist Pharmacy Service (SPS) supports the NHS to develop best practice systems of work-related to buying, making and using medicines. The service provides leadership, instructive and informative specialist input and operational support to the sourcing, supply and use of medicines across the system. In Medicines Advice, we focus on supporting medicines optimisation and patient care through our clinical enquiry answering service, written material on the website, podcasts and by supporting the NHS England Regional Medicines Optimisation Committees.

  • Postgraduate Diploma or Postgraduate Masters Degree in Clinical Pharmacy or the equivalent degree of experience in a specific clinical area of practice at an advanced level.
  • Master of Pharmacy (MPharm) degree
  • Management qualification of experience

Desirable

  • Post-graduate level original research and/or publication in an area relevant specifically to the delivery of Medicines Optimisation

EXPERIENCE

Essential

  • Detailed knowledge and experience of working with Medicines Optimisation and/or medicines decision making groups within the NHS (e.g. Area Prescribing Committees or equivalent)
  • Knowledge of Medicines Optimisation as it pertains to both primary and secondary care
  • Knowledge of Medicines Advice, its current provision across England through SPS, and its role in delivering Medicines Optimisation
  • Experience of working with medicines commissioning and decision making structures within the NHS to influence change
  • Some experience of working at national level to enable Medicines Optimisation implementation (e.g. with the office of the CPhO at NHS E, NHS I etc).
