Teaching Fellow in Critical Care/ Anaesthesia and
Medical EducationCT3 to post CCT
An opportunity has arisen to appoint an individual to this exciting post, in collaboration with Imperial College Medical School, and the Critical Care Directorate of London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust.
This is a full time post commencing August 2023 for an initial period of one year (extendable by mutual agreement). The post is appointable at CT3 level or above. The post is also suitable for a senior trainee (ST5+), who wishes to develop a medical education CV in preparation for a consultant post, especially for candidates applying for an OOPE within a training programme. The post holder will be encouraged to gain formal certification in Medical Education(e.g. PGCert, PGDip or MEd).
A positive approach to flexible working, problem solving and a passion for teaching would be advantageous.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will work closely with and receive guidance from the Undergraduate Education Manager, Mrs Anup Jethwa (NPH). Drs Husain and McNaughton will retain responsibility for the delivery and standards of the Critical Care and Anaesthesia teaching respectively.
- Within the first week of appointment the post holder will be expected to meet with the key stakeholders and construct a teaching plan for the forthcoming academic term. The balance between critical care, anaesthesia, postgraduate simulation/teaching, and other commitments will depend upon student numbers on site.
Duration of post
- The post will be offered on a fixed term basis for 12 months, extendable by mutual agreement in the interests of the post holder and department needs. Regular review of progress and teaching development will take place with the DCS/Deputy DCS and Dr Husain.
Post Graduate Degree/Education
The successful applicant will be given time and encouraged to study for a higher education degree e.g. certificate in medical education.
Office Space
The teaching fellows share an office and have access to administrative secretarial help via the campus Undergraduate office.

To become proficient in delivery of undergraduate and postgraduate medical education, including simulation teaching for Foundation Doctors and SAS doctors. It might be possible, depending on teaching commitment and upon agreement with the Educational Supervisor, to gain experience in an aspect of critical care or anaesthesia. Such experience may include head and neck anaesthesia, obstetrics or vascular. Critical care interestsinclude advanced respiratory support and medical management. Medical management exposure would be reserved for those in ST7 (or equivalent). The post holder may, depending on experience, be able to gain experience and skills in examination and assessment in OSCE style examination for medical students.
