Public Health Fellow
12 months fixed term
This job is designed for someone who is committed to delivering Public Health interventions in the Emergency Department. The successful candidate will be given a timetable that covers rostered clinical duties on the shop floor and protected SPA time (possible to arrange a fixed day) set aside to work alongside our Consultants in introducing Public Health initiatives in our EDs. The development of this role shows our commitment to improving patient care, and our dedication to improving patient care within our EDs, the wider Trust as well as our local communities.
We pride ourselves on the close working links between Northwick Park and Ealing EDs and with this in mind, we will expect the Public Health Fellow to support the sharing of learning and standardisation of improved processes on both sites.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be required to be part of the ED managerial team, with a focus on specific tasks that are essential to ED management. We are excited to be able to offer for the first time a Junior Clinical post with a specialist interest in Public Health.
Help us to:
- Deliver public health interventions in the Emergency Department such as supporting the roll out of BBV screening in our EDs
- Develop meaningful links with our local Public Health teams and third sector organisations eg further expanding on the food parcel programme we run already
- Secure a commitment from senior leadership and management to embed public health within our strategy
- Improve the quality of our data collection to highlight the need and guide interventions that can be trialled
- Target support to the most vulnerable people and work towards reducing health inequalities
- Address the ongoing risk from COVID-19 and from the disruption to health protection and public health services

An Emergency Medicine Consultant is present on the shop floor between 08:00 00:00 at Northwick Park (and 08:00 22:00 in Ealing ED) to support management of patients and shop floor teaching. Outside of these hours one of our Middle Grade doctors or Emergency Medicine Training Registrars is designated to undertake the lead role and works in close liaison with the nurse co-ordinator to ensure the department runs efficiently overnight.
