Job summary

CONSULTANT IN DIABETES AND ENDOCRINOLOGY/GIM

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic colleague with clinical expertise and a desire to further develop our services. The post holder will be primarily based at Ealing Hospital for out-patient, in-patient and general medical on call duties. You will join an established team and have an allocated office with dedicated administerial support.

You will be expected to contribute to the ongoing care of the general medicine patients on a rotational 'Physician of the Week' basis and undertake General Medical on call commitments at Ealing Hospital. You will contribute to the triaging of diabetes & endocrinology clinic referrals from primary care and to the review of internal ward referrals.

We have trainees from the well-regarded NW Thames endocrinology training scheme and medical students from Imperial Medical School. The post holder will be expected to take part in teaching and supervision of junior doctors and other members of the MDT. The team includes diabetes specialist nurses and podiatrists. Participation in cross site meetings, audits and transformation projects is supported and encouraged.

Main duties of the job

The Post

This is a new post which has arisen due to increasing demand for inpatient and outpatient consultant support

The post holder will primarily be based at the Ealing Hospital site They will have an allocated office and secretarial and administrative support is provided by dedicated staff based within the service. All consultant offices have dedicated computers for use or if preferred the post holder may have a laptop with docking station to facilitate office/ remote working

The post holder will be expected to undertake four clinics per week, but this clinic commitment is reduced when allocated to covering inpatient. There is a standardized template for clinics - Diabetes three new/seven follow up and endocrinology - four new and seven follow up. Outpatient activity will be at Ealing Hospital and the post holder will be encouraged to develop a sub specialty interest.The post holder will be expected to engage with the multidisciplinary team and will supervise junior doctors and other members of the MDT.

The post holder is expected to attend on an as needed basis the weekly thyroid MDT. They will also contribute to the triaging of endocrinology and diabetes clinic referrals on the Vantage system and also to the review of ward referrals to the specialty

The post is offered as a DCC/SPA split of 7.5 DCC/2.5 SPA.
