Job summary
Teaching Fellow
12 months fixed term
An excellent opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Teaching Fellow to join the Emergency Department at Northwick Park Hospital.
This job is designed for someone who is committed to both Emergency Medicine and medical education. The successful candidate will be given a timetable that covers clinical duties on the shop floor and SPA time set aside to work alongside consultants planning, constructing and delivering teaching.
In this new world the teaching will take many formats incorporating online platforms, virtual classrooms and simulation sessions, and it will involve delivering teaching to the whole multidisciplinary team. We pride ourselves on the close working between our Northwick Park and Ealing EDs and, with this in mind, we will expect the Teaching Fellow to support the sharing of learning and standardisation of teaching on both sites.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be involved in all aspects of the care of patients in the Emergency Department at Northwick Park Hospital. They will have direct responsibility for the management of patients. An Emergency Medicine Consultant is present on the shop floor between 08:00 - 00:00 at Northwick Park (and 08:00 - 22:00 in Ealing ED) to support management of patients and shop floor teaching. Outside of these hours one of our Middle Grade doctors or Emergency Medicine training Registrars is designated to undertake the 'lead role' and works in close liaison with the nurse co-ordinator to ensure the department runs efficiently.
The teaching fellow will join a team which is already committed to teaching and learning. They will be expected to develop teaching sessions both online and face to face. We will support the candidate to run simulation sessions, some of these will be in-situ in the Emergency Departments in Resus and some will be in our simulation suites in both departments. The appointee will be expected to liaise with other speciality teams and other clinical fellows in the hospitals to organise joint teaching sessions and joint simulation sessions. There are established training and development nurses within the department and the successful candidate will be expected to work alongside this team to ensure that where possible teaching sessions can be integrated and multidisciplinary.
