Locum Consultant - Upper Limb

Job summary

  • The post holder will be expected to participate in the trauma services at both Northwick Park and Central Middlesex, to attend the trauma meetings and to assist in the coordination and smooth running of the emergency trauma lists.
  • The post holder will be expected to support the lower limb orthopaedic service in meeting waiting list targets. He/she will be expected to operate on pooled elective patients.
  • The post holder will participate in 1 in 8 on call for the trust including week-ends. This will be subject to change to allow for rota expansion
  • The post holder will be expected to participate in the teaching activities of the trust and the supervision and training of junior medical staff.
  • The post holder will be expected to participate in the activities of the Orthopaedic department.
  • The post holder will be expected to work collaboratively with professional colleagues and managers within the North West London Hospitals Trust.
  • Regular liaison must be maintained with General Practitioners and other professional groups who use the Orthopaedic services at all the hospitals.
  • Participation in clinical and medical audit of the service provided will be carried out together with the other Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeons. The post holder will take part in regular Departmental Clinical Governance.
  • The post holder will be accountable to the Clinical Director

Main duties of the job

Programmed activities

Over a 4week period:

10 trauma half day sessions (including 2 evening trauma lists as part of on-call)

4 fracture clinics

4 elective clinics

4 elective theatre lists

2 afternoon ward rounds as part of two on calls

Weekend on call 1 in 8 with subject to change to allow for rota expansion
