Job summary
This locum consultant post is advertised pending finalisation of business case approval for additional consultants within our endocrinology service.
The post holder will be based at both Ealing Hospital and Central Middlesex Hospitals, but with no planned cross site travel in a day. They will join an established team on both sites and have an allocated office and dedicated secretarial support.
The postholder will be expected to contribute to the ongoing care of the general medicine patients on a rotational basis at Ealing Hospital and undertake General Medical on call commitments each month at Ealing Hospital.
Outpatient activity will be at both Ealing and Central Middlesex Hospital sites and as per job plan reflect a mix of endocrine and diabetes clinics. During the week allocated to general medical cover the post holder will retain two clinics based at Ealing Hospital. They will contribute to the triaging of diabetes & endocrinology clinic referrals from primary care and to the review of internal ward referrals.
The post holder will be expected to engage with the multidisciplinary team and will supervise junior doctors and other members of the MDT. Participation in cross site meetings, audits and transformation projects is supported and encouraged.
The post is offered as a DCC/SPA split of 7.5 DCC/ 2.5 SPA
Main duties of the job
The post holder will primarily be based at the Ealing Hospital site but will provide dedicated clinics at Central Middlesex hospital site. They will have an allocated office. Secretarial and administrative support is provided by dedicated staff based within the service. There is no planned cross site travel in a day.
Outpatient diabetes and endocrinology services are provided on the 3 main Trust sites. The diabetes and endocrinology services are provided in a dedicated centre, the Jeffrey Kelson Diabetes Centre. On the Ealing site provide an outpatient diabetes and endocrinology service to the local population in addition to providing specialist input to general medical inpatients.
About us
The Trust houses a large Postgraduate Education Department with offices on all three sites and has Deanery-funded Postgraduate Educational Fellows. The Department oversees the training of approximately 514 doctors in postgraduate training and 200 educational and clinical supervisors. Pre-registration nurse training is provided by the Trust in conjunction with University of West London. 100 students benefit from the wide range of clinical experience which is available; both for qualification and registration.
? The Trust has established an extensive programme of post registration speciality based nurse training to enhance patient care and service delivery.
? The main facilities available for running courses within the campus are based in the Medical Education Centre which is situated immediately above the John Squire Medical Library. The John Squire Medical Library is the North West reference library for the National Library Association, The Medical Education Centre houses the Postgraduate Education Office, 6 seminar rooms, and the Himsworth Hall which can be used when registrants total 100-300. In addition The Jonathan Levi Lecture Theatre is situated at the centre of the hospital. This lecture theatre is used for the weekly hospital Grand Rounds and can accommodate approximately 100 attendees.

The Diabetes stream is led by Dr Neil Hill at Charing Cross Hospital. Recent research projects include a commercial study of oral semaglutide in type 2 diabetes patients, CODIFI2 study of microbiological testing in diabetic foot ulcers and the ADRESS2 study of patients with newly diagnosed type 1 diabetes. We are in set up for a commercial study of flash glucose monitoring in patients at high risk for haematological conditions which may affect HbA1c laboratory test results. We are seeking to grow our involvement in research and are a leading centre for recruitment studies. We are seeking resources to start more commercial work and there will be an opportunity for the post-holder to be engaged with this.
