TRUST TRAINEE REGISTAR IMT3 ROTATIONS in ACUTE and SPECIALITY MEDICINE - (Ealing Hospital)

The Trust is recruiting to Trust Trainee Registrar rotations which are approved for IMT3 training. Each post will include a choice of specialties* with 6 month jobs in

  • Acute Medicine [AMU]
  • Acute Medicine [Ambulatory Care]
  • Cardiology [including CCU]
  • Respiratory [including Enhanced Care Respiratory/NIV]
  • Endocrinology
  • Gastroenterology

*depending on availability at time of interview

While not deanery funded, these will all be training posts with full Educational and Clinical supervision. Please JRCPTB website for details of IMT alternative certificate.

Main duties of the job

Alternative Certificate to enter Group 1 Higher Physician Specialty Training 2022 | JRCPTB

All trainees will be enrolled onto the Royal College of Physicians e-portfolio and be entitled to study leave. The trust's Acute Medicine procedures course and Reg Ready simulation training will be available to all trainees. All trainees will undergo the GMC approved SARD appraisal in February and end of year ARCP in July.

These posts are ideal for those looking for their first registrar post in a busy but supportive training environment and are fully approved for IMT3. IMT (Internal Medicine Training is the UKs new training scheme for medicine that replaces CMT (Core Medical Training and the first year of Specialty Registrar training). Its aim to is to better prepare trainees for the rigors of being a medical registrar and consultant in a changing NHS . These posts offer the opportunity to gain experience in a chosen specialty or the option to taste more than one specialty if your career choice is not yet clear. They would also be ideal for those more senior trainees aiming for Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR). Successful trainees are welcome to re-apply for a second year.

Each rotation will be 12 months duration (unless appointed mid-year).The rest of the year will be spent in two specialties depending on the candidate's preference and what is available.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Ealing Hospital is a local acute hospital in North West London, serving the deprived, multi-ethnic community of Southall. The hospital has a Cardiac Catheter Laboratory, Endoscopy Unit, Satellite Renal dialysis unit and a Day Hospital for elderly patients.

Acute Medicine [AMU]

All emergency medical admissions to the Hospital are admitted through the Acute Assessment Unit (AMU). We have six Consultant Physicians working in Acute Medicine to facilitate the running of the medical take and AMU. The appointees will work as a member of the Acute Medical team with other trainee registrars, F1s, F2s, Trust SHOs.

Acute Medicine [ACU]

The Ambulatory Care Unit (ACU) at Ealing hospital began its operation in 2014. It has now moved to a dedicated area on Level 1 Ealing Hospital with 18 chairs/Trolleys as well as 2 Side Rooms for Assessment. ACU is open 9-8pm 7 days a week and your Rota will encompass On Call Days where you cover 9-8pm. ACU takes referrals from GPs, ED to avoid admission and wards to facilitate discharge. Successful candidates will contribute in developing and expanding this service further.

Respiratory Medicine

The post holder will work with a dynamic team looking after in- and out-patients with a widevariety of respiratory presentations. The team is based on a 30 bedded ward and is supported byspecialist nurses in airways disease and cancer, a lung functionlab, highly trained respiratory physiotherapists, and a full range of multi-disciplinary professionals. The department runs daily lung cancer clinics, a weekly lung MDT, weekly bronchoscopy lists, general respiratory clinics, and weekly radiology meeting. There will be opportunities to participate inprocedures including pleural USS and thoracentesis as well as bronchoscopy. The post holder with work with the RespiratoryStRs to see in-patient referrals from other teams and will support the junior doctors in looking after respiratoryin-patients.

Cardiology

We have a busy 32 bedded cardiology ward inclusive of a 12 bedded coronary care unit. We provide a full complement of diagnostic and interventional investigations/procedures for patients as IP and OP.There is an opportunity to train and gain experience in coronary angiography, cardiac CT, cardiac MRI, echocardiography, stress echocardiography and TOE. The post holder with work with the CardiologyStRs to see in-patient referrals from other teams and will support the junior doctors in looking after cardiologyin-patients.

Diabetes and Endocrinology Department

At Ealing, the diabetes and endocrine service is provided on a 22 bedded unit. There are sub-specialty clinics for patients with type 1 and type 2 diabetes clinics, transitional diabetes, antenatal, insulin pump therapy, radioiodine therapy, foot ulcers, endocrine disorders, general medical disorders, etc. A full range of associated healthcare professionals are on site including inpatient and outpatient specialist nurses, dieticians, podiatrists, etc. There is an active program to help trainees in audits and to gain publications. The post holder with work with the EndocrinologyStRs to see in-patient referrals from other teams and will support the junior doctors in looking after endocrinologyin-patients.

Gastroenterology

The department runs a 32 bedded unit. The posts are all supervised by trained educational supervisors who will help you gain relevant experience in managing acute medical problems in GIM and Gastroenterology. There is a weekly teaching programme, and support to complete audit and quality improvement projects. Trainees can expect to gain excellent training in managing acutely unwell patients with IBD, Liver disease and GI bleeds, with opportunity to attend Endoscopy and Gastroenterology OPA Clinic.
