Job summary

IBD FELLOW SPR- GASTROENTROLOGY

This innovative post is designed for doctors who have completed Core Medical Training (CMT) as a developmental opportunity prior to taking up a higher specialty physician training post.

The Fellowship will be for a period of 12 months from September 2021.

Our gastroenterology department is an internationally renowned centre of clinical excellence. The department has clinics at the Trust's three hospitals - St Mark's, Central Middlesex and Northwick Park - and provides an extensive range of advanced diagnostic and therapeutic services.

We see both local and nationally referred patients.

Main duties of the job

St Marks Hospital - IBD Fellow Job Description

  1. Attend two IBD clinic sessions per week
  2. Attend Prof Hart weekly endoscopy list
  3. Participate and co-chairing IBD MDT meeting
  4. Admin work including
    1. Outpatient medication/prescription
    2. Request investigations including imaging and endoscopy procedure
    3. Request funding for controlled drug (IBD biologics treatment)
  5. Participate in Joint Surgical Clinic and Paediatric IBD Transition Clinic
  6. Working with the IBD team and biologic infusion unit
    1. Authorising biologic medication and prescription
    2. Provide support and advice to IBD nursing team
    3. Review patient in infusion unit
  7. Gastroenterology On-call/out of hours work:
    1. Weekday (Monday) 5pm - 9am - Gastroenterology ward cover/GI bleed - 1 day in 3 weeks
    2. Weekend (Saturday, Sunday) 9am-9am - GI bleed on call - 1 in 12 weekends.
    3. Weekend (Saturday, Sunday) 9am - 5pm - Gastroenterology ward cover - 1 in 12 weekends.

The post holder will participate in the acute medical on-call rota at the registrar level as well as covering the daytime duties of the paired gastroenterology trainees for all inpatient, day case and outpatient work for the gastroenterology service outside of endoscopy.
