Job title: Paediatric Clinical Fellow for SSPAU (Short Stay Paediatric Assessment Unit)
London North West University Healthcare Trust consists of Northwick Park, Ealing, St Mark's and Central Middlesex Hospitals. The Trust has a well-established national and international reputation for clinical excellence, innovation and achievement. The Trust consists of one of the largest and busiest Emergency departments in London with the Paediatric Ed based in Northwick Park Hospital with over 35,000 children being seen annually. Two thirds of the clinical activities of the hospital are in support of the socially and economically diverse communities of the boroughs of Brent, Harrow and Ealing in North West London. The case mix is one of the most diverse seen anywhere in the world with trauma, diseases and illnesses from all socio-economic and multi-ethnic groups.
Consultant delivered care occurs in the Paediatric ward from 8am-6pm and in the Ed from 10am-10p m on weekdays and 8-2pm and 2-10pm on weekends respectively.
The post is part of the Trust's strategy to improve emergency care for children as per the SDEC standards and to strengthen the working relationship between Paediatrics and Emergency Medicine, as a new 8-bed Short stay Paediatric Unit (SSPAU) is opening.
Main duties of the job
Duties :
Clinical:
- All aspects of documentation and care of medical and surgical paediatric inpatients Management of patients in Paediatric Emergency Department
- Supervision and assistance to junior paediatric/emergency department colleagues Teaching:
- Assistance in conjunction with consultants, lecturers and more junior trainees with the teaching of undergraduates Research, improvement and audit:
- Involvement in the research, improvement and audit interests of the department will be

The objectives of the post include:
- Recognition and management of the sick/deteriorating child
- Developing skills in dealing with parents and patients in general paediatrics
- Risk and governance
- Quality improvement
- Developing communication skills with children and young people and their families Specific educational activities
