Job summary
The post holder will have the opportunity to work on multiple research projects focused on predicting cancer risks in inflammatory bowel disease. Post holder will work on these research projects as part of a post-doctoral degree i.e., a PhD with Imperial College, London. St Mark's Research Fellow will work closely with Professor Ailsa Hart (Consultant Gastroenterologist & Dean, St Mark's Academic Institute) and Dr Ana Wilson (Consultant Gastroenterologist).
Professor Hart's clinical work covers the spectrum of gastrointestinal diseases, with a particular interest in inflammatory bowel diseases (Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis).
Dr Ana Wilson is a luminal gastroenterologist and specialist gastrointestinal endoscopist. Her specialist interests include early diagnosis, prevention and treatment of pre-cancerous lesions and cancer, through colonoscopy, in patients with inflammatory bowel disease and those at increased risk of developing colorectal cancer.
Appointee will work directly under the supervision of the gastroenterologists, colorectal surgeons, radiologists and histopathologists. Other courses or activities where the postholder is a registrar-level surgeon who wishes to maintain clinical skills and regular on call duties but be available to attend courses/training/other activities. The post holder will get the opportunity to attend outpatients' clinics, operating theatres and endoscopy procedures.

This is a fully funded research post for three years, where successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on multiple research projects in gastroenterology.

Research will be carried out in collaboration with Professor Trevor Graham (Director of the Centre for Evolution and Cancer), who is based at Institute of Cancer Research: Royal Cancer Hospital, 15 Cotswold Road, Sutton, London SM2 5NG. Research fellow will have access to Professor Trevor Grahams research laboratory to analyse and process research samples. Professor Trevor Graham is Professor of Genomics and Evolution and the Director of theCentre for Evolution and Cancer. Trevors interdisciplinary expertise is at the intersection between evolutionary theory, mathematical modelling, genomics and molecular pathology. Trevors research is focused on understanding the evolutionary dynamics of cancer development and translating this knowledge to improve clinical management of disease. His laboratory combines expertise in evolutionary theory, mathematical modelling and bioinformatics, together with cutting-edge wet-lab analyses foremost in genomics, single cell sequencing and molecular pathology.
