About us

The Department of General Surgery at NPH provides a comprehensive range of emergency and elective surgical services. In response to the increasing emergency workload, a new acute general surgery team was created during 2014 with the recruitment of five additional general surgeons.

General Surgery currently admits approximately 5,500 emergency patients per year and also has a busy elective patient workload and out-patient clinic commitments. Alongside a broad case mix of common surgical conditions, there is a particular case load of the complications of gallstone disease, acute pancreatitis, acute diverticulitis as well as less common conditions such as abdominal TB and its complications, an area in which the team have previously published their experience.
