Job summary

The role offers you the opportunity to become a specialist in forensic Mental Health Nursing working with a multi-disciplinary team to support Adults through some of their most challenging times.We are looking for candidates who are:o Qualified RMN or LD Nurse or in the final year of your RMN/LD course (students qualifying within 3 months).o Passionate about mental health and working with Adults and families /carerso Have an understanding of multidisciplinary services and the challenges Adults with mental health problems face.o Have an excellent understanding of safeguarding and how to work within professional boundaries.

Norbury ward is a 12 bedded unit for male individuals located in River House Medium Secure Unit based at the Bethlem Royal Hospital. Norbury ward has two functions: the first being that it is a Clinical Decisions Unit (CDU) and the main admissions unit for patients without a clear treatment plan to the forensic service. Admissions to the CDU are determined by the Acute (A2) pathways panel.The second function is to provide short stay intensive care facilities for those individuals whose level of disturbance is such that they cannot be managed in the other parts of the medium secure service.

As a nurse working on the unit, you will be supported by the senior nursing team to develop your skills and knowledge.

Main duties of the job

As a Registered Nurse your role encompasses the direct care of service users on the ward as well as the co-ordination of care given by colleagues. You will need to be responsive and adaptive to the wards needs with a strong ability to engage with service users and their families. Alongside the multi-disciplinary team, you will be expected to develop individualized, recovery focused plans and ensure best practice to comply with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) code of professional conduct. There is a strong emphasis on communication, an openness to learn and reflect and to have a proactive engagement work style, with a commitment to supporting the team.

The main duties of your role will include holding the position of Nurse in Charge on shift as well as completing; dynamic and individualised risk assessments and management of risk incidences, clinical handovers and planning, leadership and decision making, safe medication management, communication and team working and the supervision and support of junior staff where required.
