Job Summary
The main purpose of this post is to support key projects within the Kings Health Partners Mind & Body Programme on physical health inequalities for adults living with serious mental illness, and mental health interventions in physical health settings.
Note this role will work across projects in Mind & Body, dividing time across workstreams to support effective project delivery as required for the programme.
The post holder will work closely with the wider team, as well as clinical, operational and academic colleagues across KHP.
In many cases these projects will be developed and delivered at a fast pace, working closely with the relevant project leads, who are senior academics and clinicians from across our partnership and their teams. The work will require engaging with a wide range of stakeholders from across our partner organisations and local health economy. The post holder will lead on designated projects/workstreams within the relevant programme, supported by the Programme Director and Programme Manager(s) .
The priorities for the role will be agreed with the post holder as part of the wider Mind & Body programme strategy. The post holder will take an active role in delivering the overall strategy, and lead on scoping the objectives, deliverables, and approach for designated projects/workstreams with specific projects. This will include evaluation of initiatives to support building the evidence base for mind & body care.
Key Result Areas
The Project Manager will be required to:
- Work with diverse, multi-disciplinary teams across our partner organisations to plan, test, and implement new ways of working and develop both short term and long-term plans for specific projects, supporting improvement across the KHP tripartite mission.
- Set up, manage and implement projects, working closely with colleagues in the programme team, and clinical and academic colleagues across KHP, to:
- Support and facilitate working relationships between the partners organisations within the relevant programme.
- Scope and develop a robust project plan for projects in conjunction with key stakeholders, including external organisations where relevant.
- Manage the project set up, implementation and reporting.
- Develop the measurement of impact and tracking of benefits to projects and partner organisations, and lead on the reporting and feedback within Kings Health Partners.
- Communicate to, and gain support from, internal and external stakeholders.
- Ensure robust evaluation of projects that feed into project outcomes and impact reporting and support additional project sustainability, spread and scale activities.
- Contribute to the development of business cases, when required, by developing and testing evidence for interventions to support the programme development and the advancement of projects within the physical health and SMI, and mental health interventions in physical health settings workstreams.
Represent the Programme at relevant meetings and events, including reporting to KHP Mind & Body Partnership Board Meetings, team meetings and relevant meetings within partner governance or project structures as required.
Key Relationships
- Relevant programme team, including the Programme Director and Programme Manager(s), and colleagues from the KHP central team, other clinical academic partnerships and cross-cutting programmes.
- Clinical and Academic Joint Directors or Co-leaders, who are senior clinical leads across KHP, and Mind & Body specifically.
- Clinicians and staff within the designated teams from across KHP, and as relevant other stakeholders from across primary and community care and public health.
- Key academic leads in the university.
- Key voluntary sector organisations third sector and commercial sector organisations associated with the workstreams / projects.
- People with lived experience of physical health conditions and mental illnesses e.g., service-users, carers, as well as those who work with them e.g., staff.
Duties and Responsibilities
Project Management
Work with the Programme Director and Programme Manager(s) and Clinical and Academic Joint Directors to agree scope of support to specific clinical and academic projects, and requirements of post holder and wider team in delivering objectives. Coordinate with clinical and academic colleagues across other programme teams (as necessary) to ensure key stakeholders are engaged with the projects.
Based on the above, manage and drive the development of workstreams/projects, including creating project plans and monitoring tight project timelines with multiple critical milestones.
Through implementation of effective project management disciplines (including regular evaluation and monitoring) ensure projects are delivered on time and to agreed costs.
To support the development of any necessary external partnership contracts or service agreements.
To produce clear output documentation of work and store it appropriately on the shared drive.
Ensure that Trust policy is followed in all aspects of the project development.
Capture and share outputs and learning from projects to contribute to the development of future programme work.
To set up, test and measure the impact of improvements across the tripartite agenda, and ensure proactive approach to learning from mistakes and successes (both individually and collectively).
Produce concise and user-friendly written work and documentation as appropriate to the project group. This will include creating key papers for presentation to the workstream meetings, and, as appropriate, directors, programme boards, and meetings within KHP governance framework.
To identify good practice (locally, nationally and internationally) in service improvement and service delivery across the Mind & Body strategic agenda, and ensure they are built into approaches supporting the programme and communicated and disseminated effectively across the other Kings Health Partner programmes.
To meet predefined objectives through autonomous working and the provision of a range of leadership styles in a range of environments.
To ensure that improvements (whether they be clinical, research or education and training) are linked to and maximise the opportunities offered by broader NHS and university system reform.
To support the development of an integrated approach to the provision of services within Kings Health Partners.
Assist with analysis of complex data ensuring it is complete, consistent, comprehensible and traceable to support the programme.
To ensure governance arrangements are in place to minimise any risk in relation to service improvement or pilot projects, and support effective communication through the matrix governance structure.
To manage the funding and budget/allocated resources associated with projects, where appropriate, and report as required to the Programme Manager or other assigned Account/Budget holder.
Stakeholder Management and Communications
- To manage the day-to-day relationship with any stakeholders, external organisations and higher education institutions, escalating any issues when appropriate.
- Positively influence key health care professionals, clinical academics, and researchers to inform them about the project developments and progresses, and to secure their engagement.
- Identify key contacts and develop strong working relationships with internal senior managers, clinicians and nurses, academics and others across Kings Health Partners, as well as external stakeholders including local health economy partners (such as the Health Innovation Network).
- To manage, motivate, persuade and influence multiple stakeholders and partners to ensure the timely completion of work across multiple KHP organisations.
- Responsible for co-ordinating the communication strategy for projects to include the development of written materials, such as briefings or progress reports, and communications (including online such as website content and blogs, and hardcopy such as brochures and leaflets).
- Organise and represent the project at external publicity events.
- To assist in the collaboration of service users and staff to devise strategic local plans for the programme (including service improvement) in line with the needs of users and staff.
- To help to develop the skills and a culture, across all health and social care areas, which focuses on applying techniques for service improvement.
- Improve environments for services in line with what service users want and in collaboration with estates management in respective Kings Health Partners organisations.
Management of Resources
- To support the Programme Director and Programme Manager(s) in appropriate management of the delegated programme budget/assigned resources.
- To manage the recruitment of any project staff, when required. Provide direction and ensure that all staff have the necessary skills and experience in order to discharge their duties as defined by their job descriptions.
- To work in conjunction with the project clinical and/ academic lead to co-ordinate the training and development of project staff.
- Support the review of staff roles and supporting the development of expanded or new staff roles.
- Provide support and training to other similar posts within the project.
