Four Rotational Portfolio (formally CESR) Fellowships

South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust

The closing date is 08 April 2025

Job summary

The Portfolio fellowship offers an alternative training route for psychiatrists, promoting diversity in the consultant workforce. It is aimed at doctors with at least 6 months of training or equivalent experience in psychiatry who are not on a traditional consultant training path. The fellowship involves four posts on a yearly rotation across Fitzmary 1 Ward, The Primary Care Mental Health Support Service, and Croydon South Locality Team. By the end of the four-year contract, fellows must submit their portfolio to the GMC for specialist registration approval as general adult psychiatrists.

Fellows will work with Portfolio Lead Dr. Andrew Howe to tailor their experiences and complete their portfolio. They are allocated 0.5 PAs per week for portfolio development and can use an additional 2 PAs SPA per week for portfolio writing. Fitzmary 1 Ward is an 18-bed female acute ward at Bethlem Royal Hospital, while the Primary Care Mental Health Support Service is a community team for patients with enduring mental health issues. The Croydon South Locality Team supports people with complex needs through a patient-centered approach and various interventions.

Main duties of the job

The position is based at Fitzmary 1/Croydon South Locality/Primary Care Mental Health Support Service for four days per week, with one day allocated for special interest activities to complete non-clinical learning objectives.

Key clinical responsibilities include managing the day-to-day caseload, assessing new patients, conducting medical reviews, carrying out risk assessments, formulating care plans, and liaising with various professionals and teams. The successful candidate will support the team consultant and deputise for the consultant in their absence.

General responsibilities involve participation in service evaluation, audit, research, quality improvement, service development, clinical governance activities, and academic activities such as teaching and case presentations. The post holder will receive regular clinical supervision, annual appraisal, and job plan meetings, and will have access to study leave and mandatory training.
