Job summary

We are looking for a Band 7 Cognitive Analytic Therapist (0.8 wte / 4 days) who is ACAT accredited to work alongside other members of a large,well established secondary care Psychological Therapies team.

Main duties of the job

This post holder will provide CAT assessment and treatment to people with complex presentations where there is co-morbidity, treatmentresistance or associated personality and interpersonal difficulties. The post holder also provide consultation to non-psychology colleagues within the community mental health teams.

CIPTS provides assessments, consultation and psychological therapy for adults with complex mental health difficulties across the Borough ofCroydon. CIPTS comprises a dedicated and well-established team of Clinical and Counselling Psychologists, Psychotherapists in CAT andPsychodynamic Psychotherapy. The service is committed to implementing NICE Guidelines and ensuring evidence-based practice but there isalso an appreciation of the value of a range of psychotherapeutic models with a complex client group.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT) Therapist Practitioner post-graduate Diploma
  • Accredited CAT practitioner
  • Recognised qualification in one of the core mental health professions or other relevant experience and demonstrable competence to practice in the mental health field in the NHS.

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of CAT caseload with adult presentations, including BME groups
  • A personal therapy experience of sufficient intensity, depth and duration to be able to work psychotherapeutically with difficult and demanding case

Desirable

  • Work within a variety of multi-disciplinary team settings, including inpatient, day patient and out patient
  • Experience of delivery CAT informed teaching

Knowledge

Essential

  • Understanding of the role of CAT in a modern NHS mental health service
  • Knowledge of other psychotherapeutic models of treatment

Skills

Essential

  • Ability to work effectively as a team member
  • Ability to contain and manage high levels of emotional distress and disturbance in self and others
  • Ability to undertake risk assessment and management with disturbed service users
