Consultant Psychiatrist Older Adult Liaison at GSTT

Job summary

As a result of retirement, we are looking to recruit a full time consultant psychiatrist for the older adult liaison service at Guy's and St Thomas' Hospital NHS Trust.

The post holder would provide clinical leadership to the older adult liaison team and specialist advice to the medical and surgical teams at GSTT.

Main duties of the job

The main duties of the post holder are to provide Older Adult liaison psychiatry consultant leadership. To work with the team leader to deliver high quality care for patients under the care of the liaison team. The post holder will see older adult patients in the Emergency Department and wards of both hospital sites, reviewing patients, as well as providing advice to the MDT on patients seen by them. The post holder will provide clinical cover for other liaison consultants for leave and vice versa. The post holder will act as Responsible Clinician for any older adults detained to wards at either GSTT site.

About us

Although the post holder is based at GSTT, they would be employed by South London and the Maudsley NHS Trust.

Qualifications

Essential

  • MB BS or equivalent medical qualification

Desirable

  • Membership or Fellowship of the Royal College of Psychiatrists qualification liaison psychiatry, home treatment or addictions
  • Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management
  • Experience in other relevant specialties such as inpatient psychiatry

Elegibility

Essential

  • Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment
  • Evidence for inclusion in the Specialist Register or within six months of gaining CCT in older adult psychiatry.
  • Section 12 and Approved Clinician status or able to achieve within three months of appointment

Desirable

  • Accreditation in Liaison Psychiatry

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
  • Able to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty
