Job summary
As Carpenter you will need to be keen, enthusiastic and physically fit working as part of a large team. The main activities are maintenance, reactive repairs, compliance monitoring and associated remedial work at the Bethlem Royal Hospital site and Community Properties. Applicants should be able to arrange their work, parts and materials and carry out tasks in a safe, tidy manner and be capable of working on their own initiative. The trust provides a wide range of mental health services to the UK. To maintain continuity of service there will be times when extra hours, altered work patterns/duties is required as well as a requirement to undertake training to remain current with relevant standards.

An exciting opportunity has arisen within SLAM for a Carpenter to join our Estates team at the Bethlem Royal Hospital. The Trust has four main sites and community properties, therefore applicants should be able to arrange their work, parts and materials and carry out tasks in a safe and tidy manner. To maintain continuity of service there will be times when extra hours, altered work patterns/duties is required. The post-holder must have a good general knowledge of domestic and commercial building Services.
About the role:
This job is for a Carpenter who has a good general knowledge of domestic and commercial buildings. In your duties of maintenance there will be statutory checks in line with Approved Code of Practice (Building Regulations, HBN & HTM).
You will be expected to work on your own initiative as well as working within a team. You will need to knowledge of building structures and fabric as well as fire compartmentalisation and fire door maintenance. Applicants should be able to arrange their work, parts and materials and carry out tasks in a safe and tidy manner.

1) To undertake planned preventative maintenance or emergency work as demanded by a Hospital of this type and use all skills, knowledge to ensure safe methods of working and to carry out maintenance tasks in a safe and cost effective way for the Trust.2) To understand the workings of engineering services and systems and building structures in NHS/Trust premises. Ensuring that they are maintained to a high standard and that all plant and equipment are utilised in a safe and efficient manner.3) To work as part of a departmental team and where necessary to support/assist the work of colleagues, and to be able to work with staff of all levels and disciplines throughout the trust 4) To provide maintenance service to all Trust buildings, and off site properties and be able to work unsupervised. Essential
- NVQ Level 3 or equivalent such as City & Guilds or other relevant and equivalent qualification in Site Carpentry and Joinery
- Health & Safety qualification in one of the following: Safe use of ladders, Safe use/work from mobile scaffold tower (Pasma), Coshh, Manual handling
Desirable
- Wood machine training
- Asbestos awareness training
- Current IPAF certification
- Specialist training and knowledge in a particular field of hospital engineering
Experience

- Experience of working within a maintenance environment
