Job summary

This is a fantastic opportunity for an enthusiastic and dynamic nurse to lead our National Psychosis Unit service and work with the already established multidisciplinary team who are highly skilled and dedicated to the service users they work with. The role involves regular contact with the Clinical Service Manager, General Manager and nursing directorate colleagues to help ensure the Ward Manager feels confident and supported in their role, in addition to continued professional development opportunities and a Trust-wide Staff Support Service and networks to help you connect with others within SLaM and beyond.

Main duties of the job

- Overall service management, responsible for the delivery of a specialist inpatient service.

- Management of Nursing care and practice, ensuring that all nursing practice is developed using up to date evidence-based practice, and that all nursing staff have the appropriate skill base and support mechanisms to access training to work with the service user group.

- Management of financial and material resources, ensuring these are managed within the allocated budget.

- Setting, monitoring and evaluating clinical standards of care and practice in liaison with Clinical Service Manager and Nursing management.

- Management of Human Resources, maintaining the efficient use of staffing resources on the ward ensuring staffing levels are safe and appropriate and contain the necessary skill mix on each shift.

- Environmental management, adhering to PEAT standards at all times.

- Personal development and Freedom to Act, being prepared to physically move between sites as needed and remaining up to date with current developments and practice in your clinical area.

- Deputising for the Clinical Service Manager as required, undertaking site wide co-ordination roles e.g. ETL.

- Communicating with service users and carers, nursing team and other professionals on a daily basis.

The post holder will provide line management and leadership to the charge nurses and therapists within the service to maximise effectiveness and efficiency of the service.

To be responsible for the delivery of care within the National Psychosis Unit, in accordance with Trust policies and national standards for a tertiary specialist rehabilitation service.

To lead a team with a broad range of physical and mental health skills in the delivery of high quality, evidence-based practice.

To lead on service developments such as quality improvement projects.

To have overall management responsibility for the delivery of care within the unit, in accordance with Trust policies and procedures.

To lead a team of nursing and therapy staff in the delivery of high quality evidence-based practice, ensuring that regular supervision and appraisal take place.

To manage administrative and operational resources in a cost- effective manner, evaluating the standard of service delivered.

To co-ordinate multidisciplinary working, maintaining excellent communication and working relationships with all team members, and other services within the Trust, to ensure effective interface and continuity of care between disciplines and services.
