Job summary

We are inviting applications from enthusiastic Dietitians looking for a full-time Band 6 post with the National & Specialist ARFID service. This is the initial centre for ARFID which has, through training and consultation, assisted in the development of other ARFID services throughout the country. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a high specialised team with an opportunity to learn and develop.

We are a friendly, welcoming, fast developing, innovative, national and specialist ARFID Team working with young people (2 - 17 years) and their families. Our multi-disciplinary team includes Clinical Psychology, Nursing, Dietetic, Psychiatry, Occupational Therapy and Paediatric posts, supported by a friendly Admin Team.

Main duties of the job

This will include:

  • The Dietitian is responsible for implementing dietetic care plans aimed at reducing nutritional risk by providing treatment personally or by close collaboration with members of the multidisciplinary team.
  • Assessing patients promptly to meet required standards, by interviewing the service user, and carers if appropriate.
  • Attending and contributing to the MDT clinical meetings and taking appropriate action resulting from team decisions.
  • Collaborating closely with colleagues to manage medical risk, which may be severe.
  • Ensure that nutritional and dietetic care of service users at risk of re-feeding syndrome is of a consistent high standard in line with national quality standards including MEED and NICE guidance for eating disorders.
  • Together with the MDT manage the provision of oral and enteral feeding for service users, contributing to risk assessment and completing reviews of feeding care plans.
  • Providing effective education, information and support to service users & families.
  • Complete robust risk assessments and risk management plans.
  • To ensure that all recording and reporting of patient contact is accurate, up to date and of good quality.
  • Contribute to the effective functioning of the team and service through attendance at relevant meetings, taking responsibilities within the service as appropriate and negotiated with the line manager.

About us

The multi-disciplinary ARFID team is one of the three MCCAED services. We serve our seven local South London boroughs (Lewisham, Southwark, Lambeth, Greenwich, Bexley, Bromley and Croydon) as well as seeing some nationally referred young people. The other two MCCAED services are the outpatient team, primarily seeing young people with anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa, and the Intensive Treatment Programme for young people with restrictive eating disorders.

  1. Maintain good relationships and clear lines of communication with other professionals. Providing specialist advice and support where appropriate to ensure that management and reduction of nutritional risk are given a high priority in the overall care package.

  1. Supervise junior members of the team or trainees from any discipline.
