Job summary

Acorn Lodge is a children's day patient service that offers national specialist care to children 12 years and below. We are made up of a nursing and MDT offering expert care to young people with a range of mental health difficulties. The unit runs a structured timetable which includes school, therapeutic groups/activities and therapy sessions.

As a Registered Nurse you provide direct personal care to service users/patients, without direct supervision, and co-ordinate the care given by colleagues.The post holder will deliver high quality safe nursing care, ensuringconsistently high standards of practice and clinical excellence which comply with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) code of professional conduct.

The role includes leading the delivery of comprehensive service user assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of person-centered care in a collaborative way. The post holder will co-ordinate a first class service that includes assessment and monitoring of physical health, maintaining service users rights, supervising junior staff and students, working collaboratively with the Multi-Disciplinary Team and maintaining a safe and therapeutic working environment and accurate records.Band 5 nursing roles are only open only to staff with a nursing registration, obtained as a result of completing a qualification recognised by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).

Main duties of the job

You will develop confidence in assessing risk on a formal and informal basis and be able to balance this effectively with acting in the least restrictive way, fostering a safe yet therapeutic service.

You will have a solid working knowledge of relevant legal frameworks i.e. MHA (1983), Capacity Act (2005) and the Children Act (1989).

As a staff nurse you will be an integral and valued part of the large multi-disciplinary team. You will take charge in coordinating shifts, formulating care plans, conducting risk assessments, supporting junior staff, working effectively with the wider team and most importantly building therapeutic relationships with the Children, families and carers. Your interpersonal skills, clinical judgement and positive demeanour will be crucial when providing high quality care.

You must be a registered nurse and It is essential you have an understanding of the challenges that face nurses caring for children with mental health difficulties today and be able to demonstrate resilience and empathy. Most important to us is that you have a commitment and passion to want to be part of an excellent service.

CAMHS experience is not essential as we offer a comprehensive tailored induction , with support from our Senior Nursing Team and access to our very own CAMHS Nursing Academy!
