Job summary
This is an opportunity for a psychiatrist with an addictions endorsement to provide addiction psychiatry leadership to the Alcohol Care team (ACT) and Alcohol Clinical Care Suite (ACCS) based at and run by St Thomas's Hospital. They will join a small SLAM team of addiction psychologists working in the unit. The post is currently occupied a holder of a fixed term contract and this recruitment process is to ensure the role is permanently filled.
Main duties of the job
- Provide clinical leadership for the ACT jointly with the clinical lead for the team.
- Deliver high quality medical and psychiatric assessments for patient referred to the ACT.
- Work with others to develop and work within robust governance system appropriate for the ACT which will be run by GSTT.
- Provide clinical guidance and advice to other clinicians within ACT and ACCS.
- Work closely with other St Thomas clinicians to provide training and develop protocols for non-specialist management of substance misuse issues on wards.
- To liaise with colleagues in other substance misuse agencies and primary care with regard to the management and transfer of patients between the ACT/ACCS and other agencies.
- Participate in the GSTT and SLAMs clinical governance framework by contributing to audit, quality improvement projects and clinical research, and responding to investigation of incidents and complaints as required.
- Work collaboratively with the SLAM liaison psychiatry team at GSTT.
- Teach medical students and junior medical colleagues. Teach across the Addictions CAG
- Participate in Continuing Professional Development, including annual appraisals, being a member of a Peer Group, and be subject to revalidation. The Responsible Officer (RO) for the post will be the Medical Director of SLaM NHS Foundation Trust.
- Agree and review job plan objectives with addictions directorate leadership in consultation with staff at St Thomas.
