The Intensive Treatment Programme (ITP) of the Maudsley Centre for Child and Adolescent Eating Disorders (MCCAED) is an intensive day programme for young people who have not been able to make progress in outpatient treatment and who may be at risk of being admitted for inpatient treatment.ITP is a therapeutic group programme, with groups taking principles from CBT for Eating Disorders, Radically Open Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Cognitive Remediation Therapy, and Art Therapy, as well as CBT for comorbid difficulties (anxiety, low mood, perfectionism etc).

The post holder will work as part of a dynamic MDT team providing assessment, formulation and treatment to meet the needs of the young people and their families in the MCCAED ITP Service.

This post will provide you with the opportunity to work in an internationally recognised service that developed current NICE recommended eating disorder focused family therapy.

This is a fixed-term post for 12months as part of maternity cover.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will provide a specialist clinical service including specialist assessment, treatment, planning, implementation and monitoring of outcomes and the provision of clinical supervision and consultation as appropriate. There are many opportunities available within the service in relation to continued professional development.

We particularly welcome applications from Black and Ethnic Minority candidates as they are currently under-represented within the team at this level.

Key responsibilities:

  • Assessment and treatment of young people with eating disorders, this may include group facilitation and meal support
  • Assessment and treatment of common comorbidities including depression, anxiety, self-harm and OCD.
  • Contribution to audit and research.
  • Provision of clinical supervision, consultation or training to other professionals as appropriate.

Flexible working: As one of the few Trusts in London we are proud to offer flexible working as part of our new ways of working, and we are happy to talk flexible working at the interview stage. In this role you will be able to work Monday to Friday in the time frames from 8am to 6pm, giving you the very best of good work life balance.

About us

MCCAED is a specialist service for children and adolescents with eating disorders, consisting of a large, motivated and energised multi-disciplinary team. The service has three arms: a specialist outpatient service, an intensive day treatment programme (ITP), and a specialist ARFID service. MCCAED has been at the forefront of developing family interventions for eating disorders and is internationally recognised for this work.

The Intensive Treatment Programme (ITP) evolved as a more intensive treatment (education, meal support, therapeutic groups, psychological therapy - family and individual) to be used when recovery is not progressing in outpatient work and to provide an alternative to inpatient treatment when young people are acutely unwell. The referrals to ITP are normally high risk due to low weight and/or rapid weight loss, alongside severe nutritional restriction.

This role will have an element of home working; however, the majority of work will be face-to-face. This will be discussed with you in greater detail at time of interview.

About our location: The Maudsley Centre for Child and Adolescent Eating Disorders (MCCAED) and Intensive Treatment Programme (ITP) are based at the Michael Rutter Centre for Children and Young People, Maudsley Hospital, which is located at Denmark Hill less than 5 minutes from the train station (zone 2). Our Trust headquarters is also located at Denmark Hill.
