SLAM Inpatient CAMHS services are excited to be recruiting a senior occupational therapist to work within our general adolescent unit. This exciting role with the Occupational Therapy team and will work closely with the nursing team alongside the MDT. The successful candidate will have excellent commination skills and be able to engage with young people on an individual and group basis, whilst contributing to their care in a non-judgemental and supportive way.
We are looking for candidates who have experience working as a qualified OT within an acute mental health setting (CAMHS or adult), or in a youth setting where you have delivered a range of individual and group activities. The young people on our units will require assessments and support with sensory and ADL needs. You will be planning and running interesting and unique groups which engage and support the young people with support from our fantastic activity support workers!
You will be responsible for managing a complex caseload of clients as agreed with the Head OT / Team Leader where appropriate and will have support with this via supervision.

Main duties of the job
CAMHS is dynamic and an OT will need to be enthusiastic, responsive and adaptive! You will work closely with the nursing team as well as the Multi-Disciplinary Team. The main duties include facilitating a flexible and patient centred activity programme, working within the ward timetable. You will be offering 1:1 assessments for the young people to develop individualised treatment plans which you will provide over the course of their admission. You will be expected to conduct sensory assessments which will inform the approach of the ward team towards a young person. There is also an expectation for ADL assessments and care plans to be developed, particularly for young people with additional needs. The candidate will need to plan and run groups, this will be a range of therapeutic groups, as well as some more OT focused sessions, and general recreation and leisure based groups.
We currently have brilliant Activity Support Workers who work between the nursing and OT team, part of the role involves supervising them as they will support with groups and sessions under instruction.
- Flexible working:
- As this role is based within inpatient services, the successful candidate must be able to be based on site five days a week if required. SLaM has a flexible working policy, and we are happy to discuss this and what this may look like for someone working within inpatients, at the interview stage.
