Job summary
This is a fantastic opportunity for an enthusiastic and dynamic nurse to lead our specialist inpatient neuropsychiatry service and work with the already established multidisciplinary team who are highly skilled and dedicated to the service users they work with. The upcoming move to the Maudsley Hospital site will provide lots of opportunities for the Ward Manager to collaborate with the team and will be a perfect platform to demonstrate leadership qualities and be part of shaping the service as it re-locates. The role involves regular contact with the Clinical Service Manager, General Manager and nursing directorate colleagues to help ensure the Ward Manager feels confident and supported in their role, in addition to continued professional development opportunities and a Trust-wide Staff Support Service and networks to help you connect with others within SLaM and beyond.

Main duties of the job
- Overall service management, responsible for the delivery of a specialist inpatient service.
- Management of Nursing care and practice, ensuring that all nursing practice is developed using up to date evidence-based practice, and that all nursing staff have the appropriate skill base and support mechanisms to access training to work with the service user group.
- Management of financial and material resources, ensuring these are managed within the allocated budget.
- Setting, monitoring and evaluating clinical standards of care and practice in liaison with Clinical Service Manager and Nursing management.
- Management of Human Resources, maintaining the efficient use of staffing resources on the ward ensuring staffing levels are safe and appropriate and contain the necessary skill mix on each shift.
- Environmental management, adhering to PEAT standards at all times.
- Personal development and Freedom to Act, being prepared to physically move between sites as needed and remaining up to date with current developments and practice in your clinical area.
- Deputising for the Clinical Service Manager as required, undertaking site wide co-ordination roles e.g. ETL.
- Communicating with service users and carers, nursing team and other professionals on a daily basis.

To lead on service developments such as the setting up a partial hospitalization programme\step down service for neuropsychiatry and brain injury services. Ensuring compliance to national standards.
To contribute to the development of pathways with acute hospitals and neurorehabilitation services.
