Job summary

OpCourage is a collaborative led by Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust, in conjunction with Barnet, Enfield and Haringey NHS Foundation Trust for the North London Forensic Consortium; Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust for the South London Mental Health and Community Partnership (SLP); and Armed Forces friendly' charities Walking with the Wounded, STOLL, and The Ripple Pond. It is underpinned by our lived experience experts.

This is an exciting new role to work as a Veterans' Clinical Collaboration and Development Lead as part of the London Op Courage Veterans Mental Health and Well-being Service. The postholder will a) facilitate pathways of care into and out of Op Courage with aim of reducing unnecessary delays and enabling veteran sensitive care; b) provide veteran sensitive and Op Courage awareness training across the three SLP trusts and c) support Veterans Covenant Healthcare Alliance accreditation and maintenance across the SLP geography.

Working within SLP, the post holder will facilitate treatment recommendations made after clinical assessment by Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust staff at Op Courage. The post holder will liaise extensively with SLP NHS Mental Health Trusts and their connected Integrated Care Systems (ICS). Together with a Collaboration and Development Lead colleague employed by Barnet, Enfield and Haringey NHS Foundation Trust the service will cover veterans' care pathways across the five ICS areas, spanning the 32 London boroughs.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will establish and maintain smooth pathways of veteran care, building on existing trusted partnerships in the SLP region, in collaboration with the Clinical Navigation and Development Manager, the local Armed Forces lead, named ICS Veterans Champions, and any other relevant team lead. The post holder will monitor and manage onwards referrals from OpCourage to locally based NHS Services as indicated in the operational policy, including within designated time scales, ensuring that treatment has occurred in line with this policy.

The post holder may be asked to develop and deliver training within the team and/or to the wider stakeholder group on veteran-sensitive practice and pathway navigation processes. The post holder will also support NHS Trusts in the SLP region to achieve and/or maintain Veteran Aware Accreditation. The post holder will be aware of, and be able to engage with, veteran-sensitive, veteran-focused care planning provided within a MDT team.

The post holder will contribute to MDT decision making, where it relates to advocating for the timely and effective fulfilment of the veteran's established care needs following OpCourage clinical assessment, in coordination with the local Armed Forces Lead. The post holder will promote fair and equitable treatment for the ex-service community and their families and ensure that practices are in place that facilitate smooth transfer of care.
