Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity for a psychology graduate who is committed to improving equity of access to psychological therapies for service users under-represented across community psychosis services in Southwark specifically, and the Trust more broadly. This 12-month post, which is funded by the Maudsley Charity, is part of a wider body of work aimed at improving the services we provide for Black service users. We are particularly inviting applications from candidates from a minoritised racial background.

The postholder will support the programme being led by a principal practitioner psychologist/psychotherapist and consultant clinical psychologist, which will include the refinement and/or transformation of the current psychological therapy pathway within the Community Mental Health Teams to better meet the needs of Black service users that have experience of psychosis. They will support the development of the psychological therapy psychosis team in developing its anti-racist practice and improving in cultural humility, which is a journey that the team has paid particular attention to over the last two years. The postholder will be responsible for data collection and simple/complex data analysis and reporting related to the project. They will also provide psychologically-informed input in a creative manner that better meets the needs of Black service users within the CMHT.

Main duties of the job

The aim of the programme of work is to ensure that we are offering psychological therapy services that resonate with the communities we serve.

They will:

  • Assist practitioner psychologists and/or psychotherapists in the delivery of a specialist applied psychology service underpinned by cultural sensitivity, anti-racism and trauma-informed care within the Southwark Community Psychosis Services.
  • Provide clinical input to service user groups under-represented within the psychological therapy service, particularly Black people, under the clinical and professional supervision of a practitioner psychologist and/or psychotherapist.
  • Support the lead psychological therapist of this project in the development of services to improve access for service users under-represented in psychological therapy services, specifically Black services users under the Community Mental Health Teams (CMHTs).
  • Support the lead psychological therapist of this project in the investigation of how models of psychological treatment and modes of delivery can be utilised, adapted or transformed to increase access for racially minoritised service users, particularly Black service users.
  • Assist in clinically related administration, data collection and analysis, audit, service evaluation and/or research projects, literature searches, policy development, teaching and project work in the service of reducing racial disparities in psychological therapy access within Community Psychosis Services.
