Job summary
Waddon Ward is a Forensic Intensive Psychological Treatment Service (FIPTS) based at River House, Bethlem Royal Hospital. We are a 15 bedded male medium secure unit offering assessment, treatment and care for offenders with severe and enduring personality disorder. It is one of only two specialist units in the country. We accept referrals from prison, high secure or medium secure services within the south of England
Our treatment model is based on the Violence Reduction Programme (VRP) which all the patients participate in. This is an intensive therapy delivered by psychiatrists, psychologist, nurses and therapists, a true multi-disciplinary approach. We help people to reduce aggression and anti-social behaviour and to improve relationships.Other treatments include group-work and one to one therapy sessions, occupational therapy and meaningful work to help people live more independently in the community. There is a three to four month assessment period on the ward before treatment begins, which typically lasts between one and two years.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will provide advanced mental health support and treatment to patients in the personality disorder medium secure ward. You will be expected to lead on the delivery of a high quality service and support and drive the standard of care delivered by the clinical team as a whole. Emphasis will be on risk assessment and risk management using least restrictive practice and promoting individualised care. The post holder will use innovative approaches utilising research and good practice guidelines.

- To co-ordinate and deliver highly specialist multi-disciplinary assessments.
- To work collaboratively with colleagues and other agencies as agreed with the multi-disciplinary team
- Manage own caseload and provide specialist support to patients and their families referred to the service.
- Work as part of the team to achieve positive clinical outcomes for patients and their families and ensure these are evidenced by performance indicators such as activity data, targets and quality measures.
- Work in partnership with other agencies involved with the patient and their family, carers to support integrated practice and service delivery
Key Responsibilities:
1) Clinical:
(a) Assume responsibility for own case load and case management of patients who are determined to be at low, medium or high risk.
(b) Provide assessments, other specialist assessments and risk assessments
(c) Formulate care plans, based on assessment. Design, write and share a copy of the care plan with patients and other professional colleagues
(d) Carry out the care plan using evidence-based models of psychological and psychotherapeutic interventions.
(e) Participate and lead in joint complex assessments with other disciplines and other agencies and provide reports for referrers, families and other agencies as required.
(f) Assess safeguarding issues for each case and refer concerns appropriately.
(g) Maintain good relationships and clear lines of communication with other professional agencies and departments, providing specialist advice and support where appropriate.
(h) To work in ways that is sensitive to the needs of the patients and individuals from a wide range of racial, cultural and religious backgrounds, mindful of the impact that race, culture, gender, sexual orientation, religion, age, disability and social difference may have on client systems and to develop innovative ways of meeting their particular needs.
