Job summary

The National and Specialist (N&S) CAMHS Autism and Related Disorders (ARD) Team is currently recruiting to a part time Band 7 Clinical Psychology position. The ARD Team is one of four streams within the exciting and developing N&S CAMHS Service for Complex Autism and Associated Neurodevelopmental Disorders (SCAAND). The Band 7 post holder will play an integral role in the provision of assessment and intervention provided by the ARD Team in order to meet the needs of young people and their families referred to our service. We are keen to support and enable staff to access opportunities in training and development and to develop skills and build on experiences and are strongly encouraged and supported. SCAAND supports contributions to research and publications, and the service has worldwide leading experts in research in the neurodevelopmental field.

Main duties of the job

The Band 7 Clinical Psychology postholder will work closely with the Senior Clinical Psychologists and colleagues within the multi-disciplinary Autism and Related Disorders (ARD) Team to provide specialist and comprehensive assessment and evidence-based interventions for children and young people with complex neurodevelopmental conditions and associated mental health difficulties. There will also be opportunities for delivery of group interventions with other streams within SCAAND and the wider N&S CAMHS services.

The postholder will have opportunities for supervision and line management of the Assistant Psychologists within the team.

About us

The ARD Team is a National & Specialist CAMHS multi-disciplinary team including a Consultant Psychiatrist and Consultant Clinical Psychologist, Principal Clinical Psychologist, 3 Senior Clinical Psychologists, Band 7 Clinical Psychologist, Assistant Psychologist, an Occupational Therapist and Speech and Language Therapist, an NAS Senior Educational Psychologist and a both a Team Administrator and an Administrator with Assistant Psychologist Duties. There are close links with the 3 other streams within SCAAND, as well as opportunities for liaison and collaboration with other National and Specialist CAMHS teams. The team facilitates placements and teaching for those training within clinical psychology, psychiatry and occupational therapy. The role may also require travel to clients in the community e.g. home visits, schools or community bases as appropriate and across the Trust and nationally when required.

The postholder will work with the multi-disciplinary ARD team to provide comprehensive clinical psychology assessments and intervention, and includes the following roles:

To provide a specialist psychology assessment, including cognitive assessment where deemed appropriate, and interventions with children and young people with complex presentations associated with their neurodevelopmental and associated mental health needs.

To undertake routine outcome measures, audit, service evaluation and research.

To work as an autonomous professional within BPS and HCPC guidelines and codes of conduct, and guided by the policies and procedures of the service, taking responsibility for own work including treatment and discharge decisions with support of clinical supervisor.

To provide specialist psychological assessment (including young person and parent/carer interviews, cognitive assessment where deemed appropriate), consultation and evidence based interventions with children and young people with complex presentations associated with neurodevelopmental and associated mental health needs.

To provide clinical supervision to more junior staff, functioning as a senior clinical psychologist in the ARD Team and wider SCAAND service.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Doctorate in Clinical Psychology or equivalent that has been accepted by the HCPC for purposes of professional registration
  • Registered with the HCPC as Practitioner Psychologist

Desirable

  • Training and/or experience in autism specific assessments e.g. ADOS-2

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of receiving clinical supervision across a range of client needs
  • Experience of psychological assessment and treatment of children and young people with a range of psychological needs of a complex nature with ASD and associated mental health difficulties and/or challenging behaviour
  • Experience that supports working with, and addressing issues of, diversity within local communities. This may have been gained through work, research, volunteering and / or lived experience
