Job summary
South London & Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust (SLaM) is looking to recruit a Substantive Consultant Psychiatrist for the South West Short Term Support Team. The team offers multidisciplinary and integrated assessment and support for a short-period of time (usually 12 weeks).
The STS Service provides two functions: (i) a short-term primary care offer to include an enabling approach and practical support for primary care clinicians; (ii) a short-term secondary offer for people who, in the main, have needs that require more complex intervention. The aims of the STS Service are to support people who require a mental health brief intervention in addition to that offered solely by their GP, to recover, stay well, make their own choices and participate in the community.
The team normally has 40-60 new referrals per month and a caseload of 200 patients.
Main duties of the job
The main clinical duties are to provide senior medical input as consultant psychiatrist / Approved Clinician for the patients treated under the South West Short Term Support Team, and to be part of the joint senior leadership for the team and South West Living Well Centre. There is reciprocal Approved Clinician cover including under Section 12 of the Mental Health Act for the leave, study leave and sickness of senior medical staff in Lambeth during working hours.
The post holder will provide out-of-hour senior medical input as per the Lambeth consultant on-call rota (1:24) with a category 'B' 1% banding supplement.
As for undergraduate and postgraduate medical education, one full-time GPVT is placed in the team and the post holder will be their Clinical Supervisor.
About us
The successful candidate will work in Lambeth SLaM, which is part of the the Living Well Network Alliance (LWNA), a collaboration with the local place-base of the ICB, local authorities and two voluntary sector partners (Certitude and Thames Reach). The LWNA is the first Alliance in the country to provide whole system mental health care for working age adults with innovation, co-production and populations needs at the centre of service development and delivery.
The post holder will take advantage of all the opportunities of innovative service development, quality improvement and management / leadership development in the LWNA as well as within the Trust. There are ample opportunities for educational and academic roles and collaborations as SLaM is part of King's Health Partners Academic Health Sciences Centre and also the only mental health trust in the UK to have our own biomedical research centre, hosted jointly with the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience at KCL.
