Job summary

This role is an integrated role between Child and Adolescent Mental Health Crisis Services and the Acute Trust Sites (University Hospital Lewisham, King's College Hospital, Croydon University Hospital and Guy's and St Thomas'). Whilst the post holders base will be Maudsley Hospital; there will be an expectation that much of the day-to-day activity will involve being present in the acute trust sites (A&E and wards) working collaboratively with colleagues across the agencies

Main duties of the job

  1. Specialised clinical practice within the service
  2. Providing professional support and consultancy, including clinical supervision within CAMHS Crisis Team and consultation to the Acute Trust Colleagues
  3. To work in partnership with the Integrated Child & Young Persons Mental Health Practice Development Lead, and consultant nurse for CAMHS to continually develop excellence in CAMHS nurses and nursing practice in line with National recommendations & targets, SLaM Trust Nursing Strategy & CYP clinical governance.
  4. Facilitating education, training and the development of internal staff and a range of external agencies, statutory and non-statutory in management and treatment of children and young people accessing crisis services
  5. Support the development of research into various aspects of service provision and service evaluation
  6. A key member of the within the CAMHS Crisis Pathway, representing the nursing discipline
  7. To actively develop key relationships internal and external to the service
  8. To support the implementation of the safeguarding children policy and ensuring excellent safeguarding practice within the service area of CAMHS and work closely with the Safeguarding Lead
  9. To promote nurse led research and audit, ensuring this is in line with service requirements. To promote publication in professional nursing publications.

Education & Qualifications

Essential

  • NMC Registered Mental Health Nurse
  • Specialist training to MSc level or equivalent in a subject/skill relevant to Child and Adolescent Mental Health. (0-18 years) or equivalent

Experience

Essential

  • At least 4 years post registration experience in a setting where mental health is the primary focus.

Skills, Ability and Knowledge

Essential

  • Ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate risk/care plans to meet the needs of clients
  • Excellent written & verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work to standards for quality within the Service.

Effort and Environment

Essential

  • The ability to engage and work with clients in differing environments in line with the needs of the service
