We are excited to be re-launching Acorn Lodge, our Children's Inpatient Unit based at the Bethlem Royal Hospital.
About the team:
SLAM is re-launching Acorn Lodge - an inpatient children's unit. The unit for children under the age of 13 with complex mental health problems, and their families.
We provide intensive assessment and treatment for children with complex emotional, behavioural and psychological difficulties. Further to this, we work intensively with families/parents and carers to facilitate timely discharge home and back to community services.

About the role:
To ensure we deliver the high quality of care we believe our children and young people deserve, we are recruiting an experienced multidisciplinary team to provide the range of interventions they need in a full and diverse daily programme. The nursing team is at the centre of leading the unit and an integral part of the child's recovery.
As a clinical charge nurse, you will take a role in planning clinical care, being part of the nursing team to employ your pre-existing clinical skills to help provide a therapeutic and safe environment. You will be an individual who would like to develop skills in an acute mental health setting and possess a calm and contained demeanour. You will develop confidence in assessing risk on a formal and informal basis and be able to balance this effectively with acting in the least restrictive way, fostering a safe yet therapeutic service. You will have a solid working knowledge of relevant legal frameworks i.e. MHA (1983), Capacity Act (2005) and the Children Act (1989).
You must be a registered nurse with experience of working in an in-patient mental health setting. It is essential you have an understanding of the challenges that face nurses caring for children with mental health difficulties today and be able to demonstrate resilience and empathy. Most important to us is that you have a commitment and passion to want to be part of an excellent service.
