Job summary
We are seeking an enthusiastic ceramics instructor who understands the needs of adults with mental health problems and can see the therapeutic possibilities that working with clay can offer.
You will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the ceramics studio, for running regular groups and for supervising volunteers. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of an innovative service.
Main duties of the job
Clinical:
To use specialised technical skills to engage service users in ceramics activities to promote personal independence and well-being.
Provide a range of activities, instructing and guiding service users to support them in achieving identified goals.
Facilitate planned groups and individual activities adjusting technical interventions to meet the changing needs of the service users.
To participate in and contribute to the OT assessment of individuals attending the pottery studio.
Assist in the implementation, evaluation and modification of OT and team interventions.
Assess risk and manage it effectively within the pottery studio.

- Formal Ceramics qualification e.g. Art degree or equivalent, or demonstrably equivalent skill level.
- Evidence of continuing professional and personal development to ensure skills are updated in line with innovations in the sector.
Desirable
- Teaching qualification
- Further education qualification in health/mental health related subject or creative therapies.
- Post-graduate training relevant to specialist area.
- Trained First Aider
Experience
Essential
- Experience of working effectively in paid or voluntary employment or community work.
- Previous experience in either teaching or Health / social care. Understanding of the principles of collaborative working with service users and their supporters.
- Experience of continued professional development. Understanding of professional codes of conduct and their application in practice.
- Detailed knowledge of all aspects of pottery making, firing and glazing. Knowledge of the principles or risk assessment and risk management.
