About the team:
This is an all-gender service for adult patients (age 18 and above). Treatment involves a person-centered approach and is based on psychological therapies and a carefully tailored re-feeding programme.
The ward is a 15 bedded unit where individuals are offered treatment for a period of 6 to 16 weeks. We use a multi-disciplinary team (MDT) approach to treatment. We are a national service and provide treatment for both local and national patients.
We have pioneered a number of innovative treatment pathways for people with eating disorders and autism spectrum disorders, and eating disorders and diabetes and would encourage the successful candidate to champion these and other novel treatment pathways.
The service is inspected by CQC, and is unique in that it is dual accredited with the QED network and the National Autism Service, in recognition of the innovations implemented for patients with anorexia and traits autistic traits.
Specialist CBT therapist/Clinical/counselling psychologist is an important part of the MDT; the post holder will be expected to meet with patients to assess and formulate their delivery of care. The Service offers a range of therapeutic interventions for patients with an eating disorder & their carers, including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Cognitive Remediation Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Compassionate Mind Training, Emotion Skills training, Family work and a range of CBT based groups and wellbeing workshops.

About the role:
We are looking for an enthusiastic psychologist or specialist CBT therapist with experience working in mental health services to join the MDT at our National Specialist service for adults with eating disorders.
Trainees, who are in the final stages of qualifying would be considered for this job provided they anticipate successful completion. Special transitional arrangements will be put in place, if proof of qualification and HCPC registration have not been received by the start date, and provided all clinical placements have been passed.
The successful applicant will be involved in facilitating the group programme which we provide for short admissions as well as drawing on a range of psychological models and approaches to support the MDT with managing complex cases. Due to the complex nature of our service users' illnesses, you will gain experience of working with individuals with a range of comorbid symptoms including autism, depression, anxiety, trauma, personality disorders and OCD.
The post holder will have opportunities to develop supervision skills and gain experience by supervising junior staff or trainees in the use of manualised therapy packages. As an evidence generating service there will be opportunities to contribute to research and audits as well as supporting our work of developing novel care pathways e.g. we are currently researching the treatment adaptations required by women with ASD traits and anorexia.

You will be based at Bethlem Royal Hospital, Beckenham, Kent, BR3 3BX. In March 2023 the ward will be relocating to the Maudsley Hospital , Denmark Hill, London SE5 8AZ
Our Trust headquarters is located at Denmark Hill less than 5 minutes from the train station (zone 2). We also provide services and operate across other locations, such as London boroughs of Croydon, Lambeth, Lewisham and Southwark; and substance misuse services for residents of Bexley, Lambeth, Greenwich and Wandsworth.
