Job summary

National and Specialist CAMHS present an exciting opportunity to recruit a highly motivated and experienced specialist clinician to a part time band 8a post within the multi-disciplinary Intellectual Disabilities Team (IDT) based at the Michael Rutter Centre. The IDT is one of four streams within the Service for Complex Autism & Associated Neurodevelopmental Disorders (SCAAND). SCAAND is an NHS England funded specialist Tier 4 service for children and young people with autism and complex mental health difficulties. SCAAND is one of very few services in the country that provides this specialist Tier 4 service.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work very closely with other disciplines in the delivery of comprehensive complex assessments and evidence-based therapy programmes; teaching and training; and assist in team audits, research, service evaluation and clinical governance of the service supported by Assistant Psychologists. The role includes a combination of direct clinical work and consultation to other local agencies and services supporting the children, young people and families. The post holder will also have opportunity for leading on aspects of service development relevant to their role and specialisms.

About us

The IDT see young people with complex mental health needs including high risk behaviours, physical disabilities and autism, in addition to an intellectual disability. We have an additional funding stream for young people with mental health difficulties and a learning disability without autism. The service provides comprehensive assessment and treatment, as well as advice to assist local teams in planning for the future care of the service user.

Opportunities for continuing professional development are encouraged and supported by the service. The service supports development of knowledge and skills relevant for specialist practice and research, and has worldwide leading experts in research in the neurodevelopmental field.

About our locations:

The IDT is based at the Michael Rutter Centre for Children and Young People, Denmark Hill in South London. The role will require travel to clients in the community e.g. home visits, schools or community bases as appropriate and across the Trust and nationally when required.
