Job summary
The Eating Disorder Service has a long history of thinking about and promoting family and carer involvement in treatment and are excited to offer this post in order for that work to continue across our inpatient and outpatient/day-care services.
The inpatient part of this post will initially be based at the Bethlem Hospital and this will move to the Maudsley in March 2023 when all ED services will be based at the Maudsley.
We are looking for an enthusiastic individual with advanced communication skills. who can work across services/teams and has experience of working with specialist services and complex families, preferably eating disorders.
Main duties of the job
The role involves embedding and maintaining a specialist carers support pathway through delivering ongoing skills-based carers workshops, providing specialist family interventions for complex patients, providing supervision in systemic and family therapy, delivering team training on supporting carers/families and bringing systemic/carer thinking into treatment planning.
We use the New Maudsley Model of collaborative care alongside systemic, emotion focused family therapy and motivational interviewing models.
The Eating Disorder Unit (EDU) is internationally renowned for providing best practice, evidence-based care for adults with the full range of eating disorder difficulties. Outpatient treatments include guided self-help, group and individual interventions. We are the developers of MANTRA, now recommended as part of NICE 2017 guidelines for the treatment of Anorexia Nervosa, of FREED (First Episode Rapid Early Intervention for Eating Disorders) and the PEACE pathway for patients with ASD co-morbidity.
Inpatient treatments include Cognitive Remediation Therapy and CREST (emotional skills), both developed within the service, and offered individually and group formats. Ideas from both have been incorporated in family/carer support and there are opportunities to develop and research incorporating these ideas further in family/carer interventions.
