Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and committed consultant psychiatrist to work in a new, innovative Enhanced Treatment Team that is integrated with the outpatient specialist eating disorders service and working closely with the inpatient eating disorders service. The post holder will provide flexible clinical leadership and consultant responsibility and working closely with members of the multidisciplinary team, working specifically in the outpatient unit of the Adult Eating Disorders Service in the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust (SLaM). A similar team is also under development in our partner organization, SWLSTG MH Trust, within the South London Partnership as part of the Adult Eating Disorders Provider Collaboration. The objective for this team is to provide an enhanced/intensive community-based treatment option that is focused, frequent and less restrictive as an alternative to inpatient admissions. The clinical model is multidisciplinary and builds on existing approaches including dietetics, medical, outreach and occupational input. This new team will divert some of the patients that are considered for inpatient admissions. In addition, the team will work with some of the patients to allow for earlier discharge to the community, by providing them with a more intensive package of care than currently available for discharged patients. The result of these changes will lead to using fewer occupied bed days for South London patients.

Main duties of the job

This is a new post developed to support a new outpatients treatment option to provide more intensive multi-disciplinary package of care in the community setting as an alternative to hospital admission.

The successful candidate will work with other members of the specialist eating disorders team to deliver high quality, safe, evidence-based care and to support service innovations, quality improvements and clinical research in eating disorders within SLaM, providing a strong clinical leadership within the team. There will be requirement for flexibility and cross-working in Outpatients and Day Services.
