About the Team

We are a 24 bed Community based Rehabilitation service with 2 units/houses. The service forms part of the Lewisham Adult Mental Health Directorate andprovides Complex care and Rehabilitation services on behalf of South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust (SLaM) and part of the wider South London Partnership.

We take admissions from Acute Mental Health Providers as well as Community referrals. The average length of stay on the ward is currently around 6-12 months. The ward benefits from having a skilled Nursing Team, A team of medics led by experienced Consultant, Occupational Therapists, Psychologist, Assistant Psychologist, Peer Support Worker as well as Volunteers.

We are part of a teaching Hospital and as thus work with a number of student groups. It is fundamental to our success that all staff & students are involved in reflecting on ward processes and implementing improvements.

About the location:

You will be based at 1-5 Heather Close, Hither Green, London, SE13 6UG

Our Trust headquarters is located at Denmark Hill less than 5 minutes from the train station (zone 2). We also provide services and operate across other locations, such as London boroughs of Croydon, Lambeth, Lewisham and Southwark; and substance misuse services for residents of Bexley, Lambeth, Greenwich and Wandsworth.

Main duties of the job

About the Role:

We are looking for a highly motivated and hardworking Health Care Assistant with a genuine commitment to delivering evidence-based care for service users within the context of least restrictive practice.

You will assist individual patients with elements of nursing care, participate and contribute to the implementation, assessment and review of programmes of care.

You should be able to demonstrate excellent caring and interpersonal skills and must be someone who is enthusiastic, innovative and wants to work in a service that is committed to providing individualized evidenced based care.

The post holder will be supported under the National Apprenticeships Scheme to complete a 12 month development programme on the job in line with the Apprenticeships Standards (2017).

The Care Certificate forms part of the training and covers most of the required mandatory training within the Trust. Post holders with a 'Care Certificate' issued by their former employer will be expected to submit their certificate and portfolio of evidence to the Education and Development Department for verification and further guidance on how to proceed once commencing the Apprenticeship Programme.

The programme will also involve off ward training to ensure staff have the time to develop and consolidate their learning. The Apprenticeship scheme offers a new career pathway for Senior Healthcare Support Worker to progress up the career ladder with confidence and flexibility.
