Job summary

We are seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic Specialty/SAS/Trainee psychiatric Doctor to work within our multidisciplinary Hillingdon Perinatal mental health team, with support of a consultant psychiatrist specialist in perinatal.

The position requires full GMC registration and psychiatric training or experience. Whilst prior direct experience of perinatal mental health is not essential the post-holder will demonstrate a clear interest in perinatal care and a commitment to delivering safe high quality care. This post offers the opportunity to gain clinical experience in the specialist field of perinatal psychiatry.

This will provide the opportunity to develop and improve knowledge and skills working with woman and families in the perinatal period.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidates will be highly motivated, energetic and passionate about delivering high quality care to patients acute and chronic psychiatric conditions in perinatal services, ensuring that assessment and interventions are provided in a sensitive, accessible and culturally appropriate way.

You will join a team that delivers specialist community perinatal mental health (PMHT) care, which integrate maternity services, community and primary care health services and social care. We respond rapidly to presentations within the perinatal period, screening, diagnosing and treating mental illness and associated risks to both mothers and unborn/infants within the perinatal period as well as offering pre-conception advice. We focus on prevention, early detection as per NICE guidelines and RCPsych QCN guidance, based in the community and maternity wards when required.

Essential

  • Medical degree
  • MB BS or equivalent medical qualification

Desirable

  • Section 12 approval
  • Completion of MRCPsych examinations or equivalent

Clinical Experience

Essential

  • Completed at least four years full time post graduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part time or flexible basis) at least two of which will be in a specialty training programme in a relevant specialty or as a fixed term trainee or have equivalent experience and competencies.
  • Experience in the management of a broad range of relevant mental disorders

Desirable

  • Experience of working in a specialist perinatal mental health service
  • Experience in managing patients from different cultural backgrounds, using a culturally sensitive approach
  • Working with interpreters and translation services

Skills and Knowledge

  • Ability to treat service users with respect and dignity at all times, adopting a culturally sensitive approach
