Job responsibilities

Provide specialist psychological assessments for children and young people referred to the Emotional Disorders team, working collaboratively with young people and their families throughout the assessment process.

Formulate and implement evidencebased psychological treatment and management plans for a broad range of mental health difficulties, using a psychologically informed framework that promotes shared understanding and collaborative goalsetting with young people and families.

Deliver specialised cognitive behavioural interventions, including CBT and thirdwave approaches (ACT, CFT), for clients presenting with severe, complex, or enduring psychological difficulties, both individually and in group formats.

Develop and implement a range of psychological interventions for individuals, carers, families, and groups, drawing on multiple explanatory models and maintaining flexible, evolving formulations that respond to changing clinical needs. Act as case manager for an agreed caseload, coordinating care across the network.

Evaluate and make informed decisions about treatment options, integrating theoretical and therapeutic models while considering complex historical, developmental, and systemic factors influencing the child, family, or group.

Use Routine Outcome Measures (ROMs) in a meaningful and collaborative way to support the young persons therapeutic journey and inform clinical decisionmaking.

Undertake risk assessment and risk management for children and young people, and provide guidance to other professionals on psychological aspects of risk.

Exercise autonomous professional responsibility for the assessment and treatment of clients whose difficulties are managed through psychologically informed care plans.

Provide specialist psychological advice, guidance, and consultation to colleagues and the wider MDT, contributing directly to formulation, diagnosis, and treatment planning for children and young people.

Contribute to the development and maintenance of a psychologically informed framework of understanding and care across the service and partner agencies.Act as care coordinator where appropriate, taking responsibility for initiating, planning, and reviewing psychological care plans with young people, families, carers, referrers, and the wider network.

Refer clients to other statutory and nonstatutory services as appropriate to their needs.

Communicate complex and sensitive information regarding assessment, formulation, and treatment plans in a skilled and compassionate manner, and monitor progress throughout uni and multidisciplinary care.

Education and Qualifications

Essential

• Post-graduate doctoral level training (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) in clinical psychology, counselling psychology or counselling as accredited by the BPS. HCPC Registration as Practitioner Psychologist: Clinical or Counselling Psychologist Or BABCP accreditation as a CBT therapist

Desirable

• Post-doctoral training in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice especially relevant to complex CAMHS. In particular: oCYP-IAPT Therapy Training oThird wave therapies (ACT, CFT) oTrauma focused therapy training such as EMDR oDBT skills knowledge oADOS-2/ 3Di trained oExperience as a clinical supervisor

Previous Experience

Essential

• Experience of working with a wide variety of client group presenting with the full range of clinical severity around mental health concerns across a range of care settings including outpatient, community, primary care, in-patient and residential care settings.
• Particular experience with mood, anxiety disorders and neurodevelopmental conditions.
• Experience of working within a multidisciplinary Specialist CAMHS team and of proving specialist CAMHS assessment and intervention.
• Experience of delivering evidence-based care in a number of cultural contexts.

Desirable

• Experience providing neuropsychological testing (e.g cognitive assessments)
• Experience of assessing for Neurodevelopmental disorders incl. ASD and ADHD
• Experience and knowledge around gender identity difficulties and LGBTQ+.
• Experience working with culturally diverse population

Knowledge and Skills

Essential

• Knowledge of clinical psychology including highly developed knowledge of lifespan developmental psychology, models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuro-psychology, and two or more distinct psychological therapies one of them being CBT
• Training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and 3rd wave CBT (ACT, CFT)
• Knowledge of the theoretical evidence base for understanding, formulating and providing interventions for mental health concerns experienced by children and young people.
• Well-developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, complex, highly technical and/or clinically sensitive information including diagnoses and formulations to clients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS.
• Experience of assessing mental health risk and safeguarding concerns

Desirable

• Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups.
• Experience of planning and delivery group treatments in a CAMHS setting.
• Ability to teach and train others as well as leading peer supervision groups based on a CBT approach.
• Experience of implementing CBT and evidence-based interventions in a CAMHS setting

Essential

• Ability to contain and work with organizational stress and ability to 'hold' the stress of others.
• Able to build constructive relationships with warmth and empathy, using good communication skills.
