An opportunity has arisen for a Band 5 Occupational Therapist with CAMHS experience to work within our pathway.

Milton Keynes CAMHS is a very busy & friendly service which welcomes new skills and new ideas. It is part of Central & North West London (CNWL) Foundation Mental Health Trust. We are committed to collaborative multi-disciplinary work and there are very good links with partnership agencies in the borough.

Main duties of the job

  • To assess, develop and implement specialist occupational therapy treatment.
  • To provide appropriate specialist intervention/assessment and evaluate outcomes.
  • To demonstrate specialist skills in the assessment and treatment of children with mental health difficulties.
  • To determine the most appropriate setting for assessment and or treatment e.g.home, clinic, school or other community setting taking into consideration service resources.
  • To facilitate relevant professionals/parents to understand and carry out occupational therapy programmes/strategies/advice.

To support in the development of training packages to school staff/parents/ other professionals as required, in order for them to identify concerns regarding the child /young persons needs and implement therapy advice effectively.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Recognised Occupational Therapy Degree qualification or equivalent
  • Registered member of the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
  • Evidence of post qualification Continual Professional Development
  • Student supervision/mentoring qualification

Desirable

  • Attendance at relevant special interest group/clinical excellence group
  • Registered Member of the British Association of Occupational Therapist & Royal College of Occupational Therapists

Experience

Essential

  • Demonstrable experience and practice in a Mental Health setting
  • Experience in working as part of a team
  • Experience of delivering training packages to patients, parents and carers and other professionals
  • Relevant specialised experience post registration
  • Knowledge of CAMHS occupational therapy interventions

Desirable

  • Experience of service developments/projects
  • Experience of supervising students / more junior members of staff
  • Knowledge of CAMHS Sensory processing difficulties intervention

Skills and Knowledge

Essential

  • Good knowledge of a broad range of assessment tools relevant to the specialist client group.
  • Good knowledge relevant legislation, such as MHA 2007, Children's Act, Safeguarding
  • Good knowledge of national policies and procedures (relevant to client group).
  • Good knowledge of range of appropriate therapeutic interventions (relevant to client group)
  • Good knowledge of the principles of clinical governance including patient safety, quality, clinical audit and patient experience.
  • Good knowledge of the standards of record keeping.

Desirable

  • Experience of using SystmOne as the electronic record.
  • Evidence of reflective clinical practise such as audits and CPD
