Locum Consultant in Geriatric Medicine / Stroke Medicine and Rehabilitation Medicine St Pancras Rehabilitation Unit & Camden Community Services 6 PAs, 6-12 Months Fixed-Term
Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust (CNWL), is seeking to appoint a Locum Consultant Geriatrician or Locum Consultant in Rehabilitation Medicine to provide and lead on inpatient care at St Pancras Rehabilitation Unit (SPRU).
SPRU provides inpatient rehabilitation to residents of North London, specialising in frailty management and neurological and stroke rehabilitation. New inpatient pathways have also been developed for both spinal cord injury, trauma rehabilitation and amputee rehabilitation. Appointees are likely to have a varied case load of patients. Team working is essential and the post holder should have experience of working within a large multidisciplinary team to deliver rehabilitation and care.
An interest in quality improvement is welcome, and we have robust links into national improvement collaboratives (System Wide Frailty Network, Pre-Hospital Frailty Network, North London Stroke network, UK Rehabilitation Outcomes Collaborative).
The post-holder will work closely with an enthusiastic, academically focused and progressive team that includes geriatricians, neurologists and rehabilitation physicians. The post holder will be actively involved in trainees supervision and training, in addition to providing support and training for the wider multidisciplinary team.
Main duties of the job
You will provide inpatient multi-pathology (general) rehabilitation care at St Pancras Hospital. You will provide medical leadership and consultant level support to the wards. For this work you will be supported by Specialist Registrars and ST1/FY2 Grade Doctors.
You will have continuing responsibility for the care of patients in your charge and for ensuring safe and evidence-based practice across the unit. At present the out of hours care for patients on the unit is provided contractually by GPs. There is no on-call commitment. Time off in lieu would be given if out of hours service is required.
Direct patient care includes attending the Multi-Disciplinary Team meetings and the ward rounds for the ward (20 patients) which you are allocated clinical responsibility. You will also be required to oversee and be involved with assessment and review of care, discharge planning and validating discharge summaries, supporting the management of delayed transfers of care, and meeting with families.
You will be required to provide advice and support to the junior medical staff and other ward staff on patient care and management.

Supporting Professional Activities and Governance, This covers Continuing Professional Development (CPD) activities, teaching, quality improvement, job planning, appraisal and local clinical governance activities.
Educational Supervision, You will contribute to organizing and delivering multi-professional teaching locally.
