Community Children's Asthma Nurse - Band 6

We are looking for a highly committed and enthusiastic Band 6 Children's Nurse or Specialist Community Public Health Nurse with an interest in Asthma. This is an exciting opportunity to support and grow the successful applicant into an Children's Asthma Specialist Nurse.

This post is a Band 6 Community Children's Asthma Nurse. The aim is to support the Band 6 Nurse to develop the skills to be ready to apply for a Band 7 Children's Asthma (Specialist) Nurse in future. The post sits within the Children's Community Nursing Service and the post holder will be expected to work as part of the team.

The post is part-time 30 hours per week. However, flexible working hours would be considered for the post.

The successful applicant will be an innovative practitioner who is able to demonstrate excellent communication, assessment, leadership and management skills. Candidates are expected to have completed an appropriate course of study at degree/masters' level, as well as hold evidence of continued professional development in credited courses relating to children and young people with asthma or willingness to work towards this.

Physical Assessment and History Taking and Non-Medical Prescribing qualifications would be preferable, although applicants seeking a development opportunity will be considered. You must demonstrate up-to-date knowledge of working with CYPs with a diagnosis of asthma or suspected asthma.

Main duties of the job

This role focuses on using expert clinical knowledge and experience to provide specialist support and advice on relevant pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions to assess, plan, implement and evaluate individual treatment / interventions and asthma plans based on robust evidence, within primary care centres. The post holder will also be a source for other professionals within the borough and support those delivering asthma care. Through providing specialist support on the chronic management of asthma, you will educate other professionals within the primary care network, who empower children and young people, and their parents and carers within community settings, to manage their condition on a day-to-day basis to improve quality of life, improve outcomes and help prevent avoidable hospital admissions.

Safeguarding is a fundamental part of the role and requires a sound knowledge base to safely manage the caseload and support junior staff.
