Job summary
We have an exciting new position available in our MK Adult Learning Disability, Mental Health and Autism Service. The Speech and Language Therapy Team is already well established within the integrated Social Care Adult Learning Disability Team in MK and also work alongside our social care colleagues in the Mental Health Team as well as those clients who have a diagnosis of Autism.
As part of your learning disability SLT role, you will working alongside Clinical Psychologists, LD Nurses, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Social Workers, Speech and Language Therapists and a range of Assistants who support the needs of this client group in the community. You will be working alongside the social care team when working with clients with mental health conditions and/or Autism.
You will join our Adult Learning Disability, Mental Health and Autism Speech and Language Therapy team under our wider Milton Keynes Speech and Language Therapy Service. There is a dedicated Speech and Language Therapy Team Leader, an experienced SLT assistant and full admin support. The team is based with other social care colleagues at Milton Keynes City Council Offices.

Main duties of the job
You will support clients to achieve what matters to them, to ensure they are involved in decisions about their lives through mental capacity work, provide support for all forms of AAC and support the delivery of training to various providers. The team work in a variety of settings: social care day services, clients homes, mental health settings and residential provider homes. In addition, the team work in post 16 specialist education provision to support relationship building as young people transition into adult services and MK College Further Education learning support dept. This involves working with students who have EHC plans and providing staff training.
The ALD service works closely together as a multidisciplinary team to ensure a holistic approach to both assessment and personalised support. The SLTs also support clients who have been admitted into hospital with dysphagia to provide continuity of care. Post- Graduate Dysphagia experience is preferable for this post but not essential as training and support can be provided to develop practice in this specialist field.

In return, we expect an independent practitioner with experience of working with children and/or adults with learning disabilities and Autism. You will have RCSLT membership and HCPC registration.

- your passion and enthusiasm to make a positive difference and deliver exemplary, client-focussed care for all our young people/adults and their families/carers.
- Confidence to work in a range of settings, including post 16 provision, social care day services, client work places and client homes
- your experience of delivering a range of evidence based interventions to this client group
- confidence in providing a range of training courses to carers and professionals
- You will have excellent time management and interpersonal communication skills
Access to own transport is essential as you will be travelling around the locality as part of your job role.
