Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity to work in our CNWL Sexual Health service.

The Archway Centre has 1 x fixed term (12 months) full time post to cover maternity leave.

Main duties of the job

  • To maintain a high standard of nursing care and service provision, testing, treatment and management of sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and screening for HIV and other blood borne infections (BBVs).
  • To inform, advice, teach and counsel clients on all methods of contraception including performing sub-dermal contraceptive implant insertion and removal.
  • To obtain clear and thorough relevant histories from patients.
  • To examine patients and obtain appropriate clinical specimens according to clinic protocol.
  • To manage a range of symptomatic and asymptomatic female and male cases including discharge, genital ulceration and genital warts.
  • PrEP and PEP assessment and treatment.
  • Provide clinical supervision to Band 3-5 staff.
  • Shift coordination to ensure the smooth running of clinics and arranging sickness cover.
  • Participate in audit, quality and service improvement.

The main working site is The Archway Centre (Islington) however, staff may be required to work at other sites across the service if needed.

  • RGN (NMC Sub-part 1 Adult branch)
  • nDFRSH/University Certificate in Contraception/ Reproductive Health or equivalent recognized training, or willing to train
  • LOC SDI or equivalent qualification or willing to train

Experience

  • Substantive post registration experience
  • Substantive experience in Sexual Health

Desirable

  • Previous experience in management or team leader role

Skills/Abilities

  • Excellent communication skills (written & verbal)
  • The ability to discuss matters of sex and sexuality.
  • Experience in managing asymptomatic
  • GUM patients and Contraceptive patients in a nurse led setting
  • Experience of working to PGDs in Sexual Health
  • Understanding of clinical guidelines and policies
  • Sensitive to the needs of a multi -cultural client group
  • Ability to work with young people
  • Ability to work unsupervised and as a member of the multi -disciplinary team.
  • Flexible and adaptable to the role/work
  • Experience in teaching new and junior staff
  • Competent in: Female genital examination
  • Competent in: Venepuncture
