Job summary

  • To support and enhance the professional psychological care of clients of the Recovery Day Programme, across all sectors of care.
  • Providing psychological assessment and psychological interventions under the supervision of a qualified professional psychologist, working independently according to a plan agreed with a qualified psychologist and within the overall framework of the team's policies and procedures.
  • To assist in clinically related administration, conduct of audits, collection of statistics, development of audit and/or research projects, teaching and project work.
  • To assist the team in the day-to-day operation of the service including data and patient management systems, patient engagement and attendance, and supporting the team in the daily functioning of the Recovery Day Programme.

Main duties of the job

  1. To assist with maintaining, managing and updating the patient data base and assisting in the day to day management of patient attendance on the Recovery Day Programme at ARC Hounslow.

  2. To undertake protocol based psychological assessments of clients applying psychological, including neuropsychological, tests, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with clients, family members and others involved in the client's care.

  3. To assist in the formulation and delivery of care plans involving the psychological treatment and/or management of a client's problems, under the supervision of a qualified professional psychologist, in both community and in-patient/residential settings.

  4. To assist in the coordination and running of therapeutic groups at the Recovery Day Programme at ARC Hounslow.

  5. To work with other staff - including key and recovery workers - to assess patients and review their care in preparation for multi-disciplinary reviews.

  6. To assist in the development of a psychologically based framework of understanding and care to the benefit of all clients of the service, across all settings where care takes place.

  7. To attend and contribute to appropriate multi-disciplinary meetings.

About us

ARC Hounslow Recovery Day Programme provides services to adults with drug and alcohol problems within the ARC Hounslow service in the London Borough of Hounslow. To be able to deal effectively and sensitively with a busy clinical setting where there may be frequent exposure to physical and verbal aggression, conforming to national and local policies for Health and Safety and guidelines of appropriate professional conduct.

To be able to work in, and cope effectively, sensitively and with diplomacy on a frequent basis with clients who have psychological difficulties, which frequently relate to highly distressing personal events (e.g. childhood sexual abuse, serious mental illness, risk of suicide, family breakdown), whilst remaining in a constrained position during assessments or in groups for long periods of time.

Based primarily at the Recovery Day Programme in Hounslow, but also expected to be community focused and work across the ARC Hounslow sites. Other areas may include the wider-CNWL Substance Misuse Service and Mental Health catchment areas.

  4. To contribute to the training and support of other staff in psychological care

General

  1. To contribute to the development and maintenance of the highest professional standards of practice, through active participation in internal and external CPD training and development programmes, in consultation with the postholders professional and team/operational manager(s).
  2. To maintain the highest standards of clinical record keeping and report writing in accordance with professional codes of practice of the British Psychological Society and Trust policies and procedures.
  3. To prepare test materials, group protocols and individual treatment manuals and visual aids as required.
  4. To undertake specific administrative duties as required.
  5. To perform other duties of a similar kind appropriate to the grade: this may be required from time to time by their Psychology and Service Manager.
  6. To assist and support the Consultant Clinical Psychologist as Lead Clinician in any relevant tasks that relate to that post.
