Job summary

CNWL is currently looking for an enthusiastic and motivated part time Consultant for the Older People and Healthy Ageing (OPHA) Community Mental Health Team (CMHT).

This is a part time replacement post working within one of the Brent CMHT's. The post holder will have Consultant and RC responsibility for service users under the care of the Brent OPHA CMHT and will also provide mentoring and supervision as an experienced Consultant

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will have consultant clinical responsibility for catchment area patients referred to the Brent Older People and Healthy Ageing CMHT. He/she will be expected to assess, follow up and carry a case load of the most complex cases referred to the OPHA CMHT. The outpatient clinic list is between 15-20 clients seen on a variation of fortnightly, monthly and quarterly appointments.

The post holder will closely liaise with and offer consultant support to the other members of the OPHA CMHT and support multi-disciplinary working in all aspects of patient care. They will also have additional sessions to provide consultant cover for the specialty doctor working in the OPHA Home Treatment team.

The Older Adult Team in Brent provides clinical services to people with:

  1. People of any age with a primary dementia.
  2. People with mental disorder and significant physical illness or frailty which contribute(s) to, or complicate(s) the management of their mental illness. Exceptionally, this may include people under 60.
  3. People with psychological or social difficulties related to the ageing process, or end of life issues, or who feel their needs may be best met by a service for older people. This would normally include people over the age of 70.

Community Mental Health Team (this post)

The OPHA Community Mental Health Team in Brent is a well-established multidisciplinary team providing community services covering the borough of Brent. In addition to the traditional provision of outpatient clinic care, a model of community clinics is operated with clients being assessed and followed up in their own home. This post involves both community assessments and traditional outpatient clinic care.

This is a newly established multidisciplinary team located at Fairfields House. Staff are experienced in integrated multi-agency working. The team hours are Monday to Friday 8am - 8pm and Saturday and Sunday 8am - 4pm.

Essential

  • MB BS or equivalent medical qualification

Desirable

  • Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management
  • MRCPsych OR MRCPsych equivalent approved by the Royal College of Psychiatrists
  • Additional clinical qualifications

Eligibility

  • Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment
  • Included on the GMC Specialist Register OR within six months
  • Approved clinician status OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment
