In our quest to deliver patient-focused quality care we are looking to recruit a highly motivated, innovative and enthusiastic Customer and Health Care Officer to join our forward thinking, friendly and expanding Sexual Health & HIV team at Buryfields Clinic, Guildford, Surrey.

The post includes clinical and general office duties consisting of, supporting clinical staff, clinical duties, phlebotomy, chaperoning, microscopy, inputting patient details on our electronic patient record system, helping to cover a busy reception, liaising with patients, dealing with enquiries by telephone.

The Day to Day duties can vary, which helps keeps the role interesting and varied. A normal day can be supporting a "Specialist Consultant" Clinic with complex contraception in the morning and doing your own "Bloods clinic" in the afternoon. Alternatively, you can be covering reception in the morning and supporting a Nurse or Doctor in the afternoon.

Main duties of the job

The role is a dual role including reception and clinical work. Training will be offered to appropriate candidate. For the position you will:-

- have a non-judgemental approach to sexual health

- demonstrate an active interest in Sexual Health

- have the ability to work within the team both administrative and clinical tasks.

- chaperoning and assisting the clinical team in all aspects of out-patient care

- undertake phlebotomy including patients who have been diagnosed with HIV

Establish and maintain communication with people on routine and operational matters. Communicates clearly with people at an appropriate level and pace. Calls patients into clinical room and explains testing and examination procedure. Collects samples for Chlamydia and Gonorrhea testing and performs urinalysis and pregnancy testing with associated reading, recording and reporting of results. Offers the on the spot self-administered STI tests. Performs Venipuncture for sexually transmitted infections and routine blood tests. Manages asymptomatic male and female patients through the clinic providing sexual health screening including blood tests for HIV and Syphilis. Able to triage patients and refer patients that they are unable to manage to the nurse or doctor or signpost the patient to the next available appropriate clinical session. Processes routine samples by labelling, recording and storing appropriately. Transports specimens to other departments as necessary. Aware of the equal entitlement to confidentiality due to under 16 years that attend the service. Raise awareness of testing for sexually transmitted infections and treatment service with a particular emphasis on vulnerable or risk communities within the area. Provide information, advice, support and guidance to 18-24 year old on sexual health matters.
