Job summary

An exciting opportunity has been created for an enthusiastic Nursing Associate to join our School Nursing Team within Milton Keynes.

This is a newly created post, that will support the current School Nursing Team to deliver the 5-19 element of the Healthy Child Programme. You will have an interest in preventative health with a passion for delivering safe, high-quality care to children and young people within the school, home and clinic setting.

Safeguarding children is at forefront of all the work carried out by the team and as a Nursing Associate you will support families as part of the Early Intervention Strategy.

The Role of the Nursing Associate is to assist and support the School Nurses (SN's) and Registered Nurses (RN's) in ensuring optimal care is delivered across Milton Keynes. The post holder will be responsible for delivering , family centred compassionate care under the direction of a School Nurse or Registered Nurse, with a focus on promoting public health and safeguarding. You will be an accountable professional and have the ability to work without constant direct supervision and within the parameters of practice by undertaking a range of duties appropriate to the level of responsibility and knowledge and skills acquired.

Main duties of the job

  • To work within the Nursing Associate parameters of practice and deliver high-quality, compassionate care to children aged 5-19 years, with a focus on promoting health.
  • To work under the direction / delegation of the Locality School Nurse and Registered Nurse managing a caseload, delivering planned packages of care within the family home, community locations and schools.
  • Assist in the delivery and planning of programmes/activities either with individual or groups of parents/carers, which aim to improve outcomes for children and young people.
  • Assist in the delivery of programmes of care to meet identified service specific targets, such as; continence, obesity/healthy eating, oral health, asthma, anaphylaxis management, sleep, school readiness and health needs assessments.
  • Support parents and young people with enuresis information, face to face, virtually and in a group setting.
  • Work in partnership with parents/carers, families and multi-disciplinary colleagues to maximise service delivery and to maintain effective relationships and communication.
  • Assist in the administrative management of referrals, sharing information with and from health and social care staff.
  • Write clinical records in line with record keeping policy.
  • Communicate professionally, demonstrating active listening with excellent verbal and non-verbal communication skills.
  • Have an awareness of local safeguarding procedures and appropriately respond to any identified concerns.
